Lucas has indeed done it before, but until this game he's done it consistently poorly. It's been one of the safest bets in football that his getting on the end of an attacking move would see the move break down.

I'm not sure how fair a comment this is since he has scarcely been on the end of attacking moves during his time with us. I still think he's a bit of an enigma and we really haven't seen enough of what he's actually capable of to judge his ability and potential. His tackling has certainly come up leaps and bounds since he joined. That being said, the way he has played (or been asked to play) on the whole is deserving of criticism.

I really do want to see him given more freedom to see what he can do. If he is going to be continuned in the role we've mostly seen him in, I don't want him in the starting eleven next season.

After the debacle of the away leg, I'm glad the lads felt that they had something to prove. This was a proper Liverpool team performance. We played well within ourselves though. Great result and well deserved. Athletico is going to be a tough challenge but with an on-form Torres, should be no problem. I just hope we carry this momentum until the end of the season.

Let's agree to differ about the first bit. I've seen him in those positions often enough to think it's fair to judge him on them.

Either way, if that goal was a sample of what he's truly capable of, bring it on.

I certainly think he's better than what we've mostly seen. Unfortunately, if he can't show on a consistent basis what he's capable of (or if, indeed, he's not as capable as I tend to think), he doesn't deserve a spot in the team. I hope we set up our team somewhat different next year or have personnel who better operate in the system. This year clearly didn't work.

(Or I could just be somewhat reflexing against the overwhelming anti-Lucas sentiment. *shrug* It's possible.)
