Everyone is in an understandably shite mood right now - so I want to make a thread consciously focusing on whatever few positives we see even in games like last night. Gakpo’s improved link-up play was one, Bajtecic’s continued maturation another, Elliott scored his 5th goal of the season, which is a decent return for a teenager mostly playing in midfield. But the biggest consistent positive for me in the last few weeks has been this man:
He started shakily after coming back from an injury and the WC, his mistakes actually cost us in the first couple of games back. But since then he has been a one-man defensive wall, plugging all the gaps he can get to, keeping calm amid the chaos and making a real case to be viewed as Van Dijk’s long-term successor. Trying to shore up our defence will be a losing battle this season, until all the other issues are sorted - but respect to Konate for actually showing up for that battle every single time and never shirking from a difficult task! This is how strong footballers are made.
