Ponting retires from test cricket.

Yeah, never liked him, though at one time he was almost impossible to shift from the crease when he was in the mood. Which was usually.

It's part of the person spec for successful Aussie skippers that they're cnuts of the first order. I wouldn't have it any other way. Ponting's absolutely out of that stable but, as you fellas have said, he's had a very good career and deserves every respect.

Great player ... One of the best of his generation, and ever really. I really liked how the Proteas treated him when he walked on the pitch, and after his dismal. Classy.

It's not that he's a cunt - its just that he's from Tasmania - they're a bit different down there - remember, that's where Australia sent its convicts.

I went to Tassie a couple of years ago, and everyone I met was great. I got bogged on the side of the road about 45 minutes after I drove off the Spirit (so about 10am) because my then 6 month old couldn't wait 20 minutes to get to the next town for a feed. Three different dudes pulled over with tow ropes to pull me out within about 10 minutes.

I had a slab of Cooper's Pale in the car, and I offered it to the bloke who eventually pulled me out, but he refused to take it. There was no way I wasn't going to give him beer, so a stalemate ensued. It was finally broken when he agreed to have *a* beer as long I had one with him.

So there we were, drinking warm Cooper's on the side of the road at 10am.

I won't hear a bad word said about Taswegians now, although some of the small mining towns are a bit scary.

I always quite liked Ponting - He did act a bit of a bellend at times but I saw him take loads of stick which he always took with good humour. One of the greatest batman to have ever lived as well.

As for Tasmania - I'll go with TheFasterBlade on this. I had a great time in Hobart a few years ago. I found myself in a bar called 'The Squire's Bounty' and ended up hanging out with a bunch of the friendliest tasweigan strangers you could ever meet.
