Honest question.

Before you answer, know this.

Population of Iceland: 323,000

Population of Leicester: 330,000

They're still in it.

So, yes, they can.

But they won't.
I'd be absolutely totally amazed if they do, and they most likely won't.

France is a better team and have got better players in their prime than England, but could suffer somewhat from the same 'disease' as England did last night - wobbly legs, apathy etc. because of the absolutely thunderous uproar they would face should they get knocked out to a country with a lesser population than Disneyland outside Paris on a warm Summers day.

If Denmark can manage it after being called from the beach to take part, so can a properly prepared Iceland. 😉

But, as others have said, it ain't gonna happen.

Denmark in the 90's, Greece in the 00's and now it's Iceland's turn this decade.

That would be the best case scenario ever. And they should then gather a circle around Ronaldo before doing their 'Haka-like' thing afterwards.

I can see him now, crying his eyes out.

Denmark, Greece, Leicester - weird things really can happen in football.

Without trying to take anything from the achievement in 92' Denmark had the advantage of having to play fewer games - Iceland will have to win two more than we did back then and I truly believe (though I thought it would've already show more visibly yesterday) that they will eventually suffer from playing the same XI in every freakin' game even though fatigue can somewhat be reduced by sheer adrenaline rush and they obv ride on that wave right now.

Am looking much forward to Sunday I have to say, Iceland have now been part of two of the most entertaining and thrilling games at the Euro's v England and Austria and this could well be the case again against France. Though they'll prob not win that one. With emphasis on PROBABLY.

I can't see it. For starters, I think France will grow in confidence having overcome a difficult start against Rep Ireland and blast Iceland away in the next match.

I'm growing in confidence that my bet Poland might just make the final (beating Portugal and Wales / Belgium in the easier half of the draw) and then anything might happen. Given Lewandowski and Milik are yet to hit form there's improvement there to be had.

Belgium are growing into the tournament too though.

On the other half of the draw, Germany and Italy look pretty ruthless.

So an Iceland fairytale? No.

Well, Germany isn't England. They'd thrash them.

Germany is an all different matter. I don't think they'll get to meet this time around however, but if they do, they'd be even less likely to knock them out, yes.

I am like 80/20 in favor of France come Sunday. Should they once again magically and amazingly succeed from that they'd be facing a stern 10/90 against Germany (but with far better odds against Italy should they somehow knock Germany out).

Should they against all odds also come out on top from that challenge, then they'll probably also beat Belgium/Poland/Wales/Portugal in a final.

By that token, I've voted 'kannski'.

No. No they can't. They are an average team, who beat a below average team (that were utterly shite) last night. Take nothing away from them, they grafted like fuck last night, but they'll run out of steam.

I just don't think it's fair to call them average anymore.

I mean they beat Holland twice in the qualifiers and made sure that one of the largest footballing nations of Europe didn't even qualify for the finals, then they hold Portugal to a draw and beat the hipsters favorites in Austria (sending them out) and then yesterday it was England they turned over. And it's not even like they've been overly defensive-minded either, they've actually attacked in numbers and done so rather intelligently. More than a few times yesterday they came closer to their third goal than England their second.

England ended up looking very average indeed, not so much Iceland.

Though it's weird to even suggest a part of me could see France also getting into some troubles against them. I've backed France to win it all and I will also back them to beat Iceland, but it's not so straight-forward any more. Iceland has simply showed to much grit, will and quite decent play to be underrated at this stage.

Yeah maybe I was a bit harsh. I suppose it all depends on where different people set the bar.

My point still stands though. I don't think they have the stamina to get to the end. I'd love them to prove me wrong though.

I had three teams in the work sweepstake. England, Spain and Wales.

Who'd have thought that Wales would be my remaining hope.

As for Iceland? They may get past France, they look nervous and the onus will be on them. But if they do, one of Germany or Italy will break them and I think whoever wins that QF will win the tournament.

Italy will win it. IF they get past the Germans, which I think they can if they play as well as they did against Spain.

They have held the Indian sign over Germany in big tournaments before now, but that in itself might fire the Germans up. Conte's done well with them, but it's the least individually talented squad they've had for a while and I reckon Germany might just have too much for them this time.

Yeah, Germany have never beaten Italy in a major tournament I believe.

Italy were a joy to watch against Spain. Not the most exciting game, but from a tactical perspective I thought it was masterful.

Germany will be their biggest test though imo, cos Italy have been so good simply cos they have so much experience in their side as opposed to talented individuals. That average age of 31 may show against a very physical & effective German side. Hence why I feel if they can get past them they should be able to win the competition.

The Italians have possibly 3 of their cms missing I think I read (de rossi, motta and candrava sp).

Can't see them beating the Germans
