It's been a trend for a while now, but more and more, I see mutual friends 'de-friending' their friends on social media because of their political views. Childhood friends, social media "friend" - gone.
So I'm curious ...
I have friends who voted Hillary (and now Biden), and friends who voted Trump.
I have friends who voted Corbyn, and friends who voted Johnson.
I have friends here who voted extreme left, and friends who voted extreme right (not saying the above are, but just because I cannot define it in 'party' terms).
I am social media "friends" with people who hold guns and look at me as an enemy - and we talk about a ton of stuff.
Politics was never a reason I was their friend to begin with - so while I'll talk to them about the subject, I don't see the logic n stopping to be their friends ... unless they're spewing racist, homophobic shit, and then I tend to disconnect ... But otherwise? I don't see the harm in discussing/reading/sharing opinions ... The idea that I'd only be open to a viewpoint that is similar to my own is scarier than that option ... we're a tribal enough species as is.
