Spawning from the Coates thread where myself and Ryan mentioned our dislike of the notions of Premiership proven and best XI respectively .... what general footballing ideas or forum theories really annoys you?

I could pretty much dominate this thread, but I want to see what everyone else hates first.

"You must always have a man at the back post on corners". Er no you dont.

Put a man on the back post and he will clear a ball off the line maybe once or twice a year. Place him say somewhere around the 6 yard box, and he can be a lot more effective and clear many more balls. I grew up being told that you had to have a man on the back post, and I am sure you did the same. But I have later learned from pros that it is not really true, and just lazy, reflexive punditry. Much like the debates on rotation and zonal marking.

head down wingers.

goodness only knows why I took to babel.

did you see lennon on moday, he skips past the manu defender, runs into acres of space, all he has to do is take a touch, look up and see VDV in a sea of space. instead he plays the ball blind into a cluster of players at the near post. VDV reaction was hilarious.

Commentators saying its "naivety" when a young foreign player is a dirty cunt, but when its an english/home nations lad its "disgusting"

Media favouritism to players in the England squad.

'Premiership proven' annoys the hell out of me, and all too frequently used to mask mediocrity

to be fair, look at enrique as an example of slotting straight into the side because he is familier with the league.

Indeed. I don't think it's an intrinsically silly thing to look at. The problem is that some commentators (and posters) put too much emphasis on it.

It only matters if the player is GOOD.
Premiership proven and GOOD = Result IE:Enrique, Hamman, Henchoz etc
Premiership proven and BAD = Shite IE:Konchesky

Thick cunts like Darren Gough, as part of Talkshite's anti-Capello agenda to get 'Arry the England job, saying

"I can't understand a word he says".

Statisticians.... make my dick shit.
Strangely enough I'm coming around to this line of thinking too. Most of the stuff we see misses the point.

stats aboslutely make sense...for the coaching staff, outside of that elite group stats can be distorted to prove almost any point.

Spidey have you forgotten who I am and what I've posted over the past two years?

Shit like the AnfieldIndex is pretty much everything that is wrong about football and stats.

UEFA/FIFA's pathetic non-attempts to sort out the racist chanting/abuse across Europe.

I watch a documentary of how a football club takes figures like; heart rate, work rate, passes, tackles and uses that to enhance a player's performance and concentrate on weak areas of his game. absolutely useful.

however things like completed passes (sky stats rather club recorded data) is mostly bullshit, how many of those passes were square or backwards or in our on half. or crossing ability, what if the people you are crossing to are rubbers headers or you play for a team that don't commit bodies to the attack.

that said I still read about stats but I am putting less and less stock in them and using my own eyes. someone posted stats that downing has a low assist ratio (when he was at villa) suggesting he can't cross when I have seen the quality of his crossing with my own eyes.
Incidentally (re:you two) id be interested to know your thoughts on Eto'o decision to go and play in Russia, one of the most seething racist countries in the world.
What message does that send out? Is it his responsibility to be aware of this? Should he take a stand? Or whatev CASH!
Personally i think his decision is really dissappointing on many many levels.
