At this point in the season, I'd usually be quite optimistic. The numbers aren't too bad, sure we've lost a few games but we're still 'only' 4 points behind Man U. We're top of our group in the CL. So where does the negativity come from you might ask?
We'll it's simple, three things:
*We've conceeded 17 goals in the premiership.
*I've barely seen any progress at all since Klopp joined. We're still too inconsistent.
*Lastly, I was hoping for a league challenge this season. I don't mind losing against Man C, I can accept losing against Spurs, you could say that Man C can't be caught by anyone in the form they're in.
But if you look at our results, 3-3 against Watford -2, Burnley -2, 1-1 Newcastle -2 and 0-0 Man U - 2...thats 8 points.
With those 8 points we'd be 3 points behind Man C.

I agree with the overall sentiment.

I expected us to be up there right til the end this season after last years effort but to be essentially out of it after 8 games is criminal.

Not strengthing LB, CB and GK is also a huge black mark over Klopp

I don't think it's going to matter, even if we had been playing at the level Chelsea did last year, there's no catching City.

We'll have to settle for top 4 and the Champions League.

Seriously ? - I don't know about any of you but to be honest Arsenal showed a lot of ways to get into that City team and they are still as they were in previous seasons - the only exception being that Pep has proper European experience to take them further in the CL. However, I have trouble taking to them and their current run because I cannot take all the hype about the likes of Fernandinho.

There are only two players from that squad I would have in my team - just Aguero, and Sane. That's it really and from Chelsea I would have Kante and Edin, from Man United I would not bother with any of them other than the young Rashford as a potential replacement for Coutinho. His done well but I cannot help thinking if our team had not lost Mane in that game we would have torn an arsehole in Pep's side - because for much of that game before Mane got sent off - we were more than a match for them. Before any of you say anything - the underlying problem with our team is discipline and concentration - other than that - we have just as poor defenders and midfielders as the other teams. Standards have seriously dropped in world football.

So.... De Gea for example? They do have a bunch of good players even though they are scum.

As for the City comparison... they have a mountain of really good players... You wouldn't take De Bruyne??

Wow...

Now don't misunderstand me I've been tired of reading the excessive slagging and whinging about Liverpool players and manager on here for a few months and I suspect that we can still be extremely dangerous opponents for anyone this year but at the same time to overlook the quality of our opponents is weird.

So after his reputation took a hit last season with city finishing 3rd and not doing much in Europe it looks like he's back

City breaking all kinds of records and sweeping all before them aside.

They are also playing some of the best football in Europe if not the best.

Is he back to being the best coach in the world or is too early to say?

Fuck him, he's a cunt, and fuck his disgusting, venal club and their owners.

I was just about to say that this thread was crying out for one of Silver Sean's lengthy, thoughtful, intellectually esoteric takes on modern football and tactics.

Guys - all teams take a dip through injury or the moment in the season when the leading pack have that slight mental arrogance to think all is ok to perform just below par. City will get that because I don' think mentally they are that strong. However, I think we are going to have a reserve in us hopefully given that we have not gone all out before Christmas and half the team is physically fucked this season. We could still put in a shit and who knows what may happen. I still think we are going to knock a few teams out for 6-0 or something in the coming months - it has just got to click because if it don't then its bad luck on a grand scale for us.

No mate - not weird. Some of those players have under-performed in other teams and a lot of them are playing at their best because of the pressure of playing for a club with such financial backing knowing that they could be just dropped. A few cracks in the head and they will be screwed. I don't doubt their ability or their quality but I just don't think they would make a huge difference to us if to get the best out of them one requires other good players around them. Players that are top top - are those that are a one man machine by themselves - I am talking Suarez level, or our own SG in his best days. To me there is only one player in the whole league who is a one man machine and that is Hazard, and the best player in a single position is Kante. Yes all the other teams have better keepers but you cannot ignore the fact that of all the top teams it is our team that gives the least protection to its defense through both negligence and tactics.

The one upside to the Guardiola media love in is that it's likely to induce an aneurysm from Mourinho.
