Can we all please agree that there's a difference between going to some foreign club and going to Man Utd?
I'm sure this point has already been made about 99 pages back, but Pepe is a Spaniard and therefore cannot be expected to have nursed a lifelong hatred of Man United. To him it is just another club in the EPL.
He may not hate Man Utd, but he's not oblivious to the issues and sensitivities.

And Pepe has been long enough in Anfield and well enough schooled in the politics of that rivalry to know it isn't "just another club in the EPL". Puh-lease.

He fucking said that shit, Andy Bell, and if he didn't (but he did) he DID need to make a statement to correct things.

I'm glad he's staying but don't act like Pepe's blameless and people didn't have a right to be fucked off.

I spent the best part of 2 years being a Mad Dog Wolverine at anybody who suggested that Torres was going to Chelsea.

That last Friday in January changed everything for me.

I'll be happy loving The Dirkilizer and the rest of 'em can do whatever.
Im not 'acting like hes blameless' im suggesting that i trust Pepe more than the press. And a denial would have made it worse for me.
I dunno if he said that shit, or even what context he said it in, and im not arsed. The fact is promises were made that were broken as Stevie and other players have mentioned.
The americans (by the end of their reign) had presided over a fucking shambles where the likes of Alonso and Mascherano were being sold and Voronin and Poulsen being brought in. We went from being top 4 challenging to bottom 4 with Roy in charge and at that time the future of the club in doubt. This after being told investment was coming (as we all were) by Tom and George. He had every right (as one of only three world class players left in thw squad) to say he was pissed off and/or never say never to leaving and getting the fuck out of dodge and going any-fucking-where. He wasnt employed by the fans he was employed by the club who had LIED to him to get him to sign a new deal. Maybe he said those things IN context, if he did then it was ill advised but IF Tom and George had stayed and we had continued on the downward trend we were on, then ill be honest i would forgive world class players getting the hump and fucking off.
The reason im pissed off with Torres is that he saw the bright new dawn but used the past regime as an excuse to leave like a chief. Thats precisely why im willing to give Pepe the benefit of the doubt, hes seen things change and said fair enough, promises were broken but thats in the past and i like where we are going and want to fight to get us there (in the process miss two years o champions league football) then i say fair enough. We all said some things we shouldnt have but i for one will love Pepe pulling on our shirt next year, and will only remove this love i have for him if he does a Torres.
Hopefully his concerns are being addressed and he can see out his career here winning medals.
Look Oncey, he made those comments after he had new owners and a new manager. But he's definitely not as disloyal as Masher or Torres. He flirted with United, and we're happy staying, but he put that little asterix beside his name and there's no taking it away. It's just not bolded and highlighted anymore. Time may see it vanish - maybe a penalty save to give us the league next year?

Nah.

Look to clear it up for you. I dont care in the least if you or every other Liverpool fan HATES Reina, or dislike him, or have fallen out of love with him, or have put an astrix next to his name. Fine, no problem, WHATEVER floats your boat.
I think its pretty fucking pathetic tbh. Thats just MY opinion.
If he leaves having seen where we are going hes a dick. He hasnt. The end.

He left it open when he could have nipped it in the bud, people were right to be upset because his comments were ambiguous and he left it open to interpretation. If you don't want to move to United because they're your clubs fierce rivals, you say as much. He didn't. We were in the middle of a shit storm so I couldn't blame him for assessing his future, but he showed a trait all too familiar with modern footballers, a lack of understanding of the rivalry between clubs and the lines you don't cross.

As it is, we're on the up, he's happy and he's staying, so let's just be happy he's still ours. Just don't pretend the idea wasn't there because it's pretty obvious it was. There was enough speculation and enough upset amongst the message boards about it and nothing was said at the time to put the record straight. It's not just 'any' link, it was the Scum.

All of this.

I don't think there was any question that he might have left, but the fact of the matter is he didn't.

I don't see why he's being referred to as some sort of traitor when he hasn't left.

Quite. I think it's in them all (most anyway) so it's pointless getting upset about it when the fact of the matter is that he's here and he's probably the best keeper in the World.

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has suggested he will stay at Anfield following Kenny Dalglish's appointment as permanent manager.

Reina's future at Liverpool was the subject of speculation earlier in the season following their poor form under Roy Hodgson.

However, Dalglish has helped transform the club's fortunes and he was rewarded for his work with a three-year deal on Thursday.

Reina has been convinced by Dalglish's impact that the future looks bright for Liverpool and he is excited about next season's prospects.

The 28-year-old has been persuaded purely by results on the pitch and a change in atmosphere he can still fulfil his ambitions at Anfield.

"I am looking forward to next season. I have always said [that] - of course there was a bit of doubt back in December and January because we were not even close to where we are now," said Reina.

"We have had excellent news on Kenny's contract, Steve Clarke's (who also signed a three-year deal) and all of the technical staff.

"We are heading in the right direction and we are optimistic.

"I think by making the right steps and taking them, we can all see the difference between now and then.

"That's why we are now optimistic about the future and are looking forward."

Liverpool's form under Dalglish has prompted talk of a serious title bid next season and although Reina is confident they will improve he is not getting carried away.

"We have to be calm because we know how hard it is to compete with the big teams out there," added Reina.

"Fifth position is not the one that belongs to Liverpool, we aim higher and hopefully next season we can finish higher.

"We are all looking forward to next season, but we have to finish the job on Sunday.

"By winning we will mathematically be sure of fifth and that is our target - to be beat Tottenham, make sure we get into Europe for next season and then get some rest, which I think we deserve as well."

Oncey, we're just debating, I fought?

His timing ticked me off to be honest, when we needed some in house calm. Not more speculation.

Anyway, it's all been said, it's a happy ending, and I respect him greatly as a keeper.

Thanks Jaysus, we don't have to compete with Man U and Arse this summer for that position.

Shall we close the door on this thread?

"Haters gonna hate" my fucking ring piece.

Pepe saw the bright new dawn, same as Torres.

Torres jumped, and id reviled.

Pepe stayed (not a big enough bid ?) but gave some bullshit interview. Talking about "never say never".

About Manchester U Fuck Hole nited !!

Yes, he's seen the light and stayed.

Great.

Marvellous.

He still considered those cunts as an option.

Now, I want him to shut all of the fuck up and keep goal.
...he said ignoring the fact that Torres handed in a transfer request and Pepe didnt.
Like i said Haters gonna hate. Thats your perogative and i dont expect youre arsed about my opinion.
I didn't ignore Torres' transfer request.

I said "Torres jumped"

As in "jumped ship".

I reckon if a suitably large offer had come in for Pepe, he would have done the same.

"Haters Gonna Hate" doesn't even come into it.

I've already said I'm happy he's staying.
Well thats just it scb, I RECKON that 'I reckon' isnt enough reason to commence the hatin.
Wether he WOULD have left is neither here nor there. Torres didnt leave BECAUSE the offer came, he left because he asked to leave.
Thats a world of different in my book.

Bottom line he
A)Signed a 5 year deal
B)Didnt ask to leave
and
C)Is still here and happy to stay.

All other information relies on a whole muss of 'i reckon'

Peace
x
Come on, now, we both know that his signing a big, shiny new deal don't mean DOO-DOO !

Torres said "I have never broken a contract" as well as all the other guff he didn't mean.

Pepe didn't hand in a transfer request because a big enough offer didn't come in.

It appears he's happy to stay...

I just don't trust any of the cunts anymore.

Except The Dirkilzer.

*makes "game over" sign*
Are you are aware that Dirk spoke to Inter or isn't that the same either?
If a hamster, watching 'The X Factor' is the same as a bouncy castle in a penthouse apartment, then yes, it is the same.
Of course mate, its just a dissagreement is all.
Im not being blinkered i just dont see the import in all of this.
Some of the best posters in the history of the interwebs disagree with me, and thats fine too.
No drama at all.
I cant pretend to be all indignant towards Pepe when i just dont see it as significant.
And i think we can all agree we're glad hes stayed right?
Love him or not hes a great keeper and hes ours.
Ps-I still love him..........and im right.

Forgive me for saying so, Jules; but you seem to be a lot more critical of a player who hinted he *might* have joined the Mancs had the opportunity arose but who's subsequently scotched that (for the time being at least) as opposed to another player who kissed the badge but who subsequently conjured up a pile of excuses to leave for another club and who DID eventually leave for Barcelona (after blatanltly trying to get a transfer to Inter)

I'm not happy about the Manc links either, but he's stayed and he's here.

Of course if he leaves in the summer after this then he's no better than the mongrelly mongoose.

I dont care about any player. We are Liverpool, and that's more important that all of these twats and their 'demands'.

If they want to come, great.

If they want to go, or want to dictate what we should do, sell.

No forgiveness needed, Avvy, but no repentance offered either. The very fact that Masher's explanations wobbled around so much said loud and clear to me that he was conflicted about what he wanted and why. I can forgive that a darn sight more easily than I can a player playing a calculated game of footsie with our deadliest rivals. You and I clearly and simply see this through opposite ends of the telescope.

I dunno, but at some point they (not all of course) have decided they're better than the rest of us. The money pisses me off. Balotelli has already got £70k of parking fines or something, but it doesn't matter to him. The 'slave' stuff from Messi, Evra sending someone round to change his light bulb, and so on.

They have no concept of reality, and nothing in common with the fans anymore.

edit: I think Fernando's actions, after the way he'd acted previously, was the fail nail in the coffin.

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina insists he never felt he needed to leave the club amid the bleak midwinter and is now excited by the future after seeking assurances over a 'big summer'.

The Spain international admitted last week he had been unsure of his own career five months ago, with the 18-time champions of England languishing in 12th place in the Premier League and morale at an all-time low.

However, the arrival of Kenny Dalglish, who signed a three-year contract on Thursday, the turnaround in results and pledges from director of football Damien Comolli of significant squad investment have revitalised the club.

The perceived bright future at Anfield has also persuaded Reina, a reported target of Manchester United and Arsenal, to stay at a club he admits he does not want to leave.

"In recent weeks I believe we are going in the right direction and we have to keep it like that," said Reina, who also briefly spoke to Liverpool's principal owner John Henry after Sunday's 2-0 defeat at home to Tottenham.

"I have been talking to Damien Comolli as well, asking about the future, and I believe in this club and the project."
Jose Reina

"It won't change as quickly as night follows day, it may take a little while, but we are optimistic.

"I think the owners are preparing a big summer and hopefully we are going to be right in there with transfers and those players who are coming in will help us to improve the squad.

"I have been talking to Comolli as well, asking about the future, and I believe in this club and the project.

"In December and January I think most of the people, not just us players, were doubting we were good enough.

"I never felt I had to leave because I wanted to believe in the project but the situation was not nice and the mood around the place was not good.

"Fortunately that is not the case any more and we are prepared to take the next step forward and that is where we have to look now.

"It is not about the past, it is about the bright future we have in front of us.

"I am happy here and my family really wanted to stay because we are happy."

Awesome - lets press on from Pepe staying and have a boss summer in the transfer market.

Right, I am willing to now Restore Pepe's pic to my wallet, along with Ming, Jari, gerrard and Luis. I am moving on. It was all an understandable flirtation. He's the man. Who's with me?
