Pep Lijnders

Everyone's piling on Lijnders probably because of that stupid book. Is there really any evidence for the idea that he's behind our recent transfer activity? Whatever little there is seems pretty tenuous.

That said, what is concerning is the departure of Edwards and Ward in quick succession. Something is obviously not right in the recruitment department, and if the natural consequence of that is more power in the hands of Klopp & Lijnders, that's a very bad thing.

Managers and coaches should stay away from recruitment except as to have general inputs on the positions they want filled, and their character and work ethic requirements from a player. Klopp in general has brilliant instincts when it comes to young players, but if he were to become fully in charge of recruitment, he'd not be very good at it. It's just too specialised a job in this day and age.

If Lijnders is the brains behind our recent signings....good? Because Diaz, nunez and gakpo could all be brilliant for us. We also went all in for tchoumeni which didn't pan out, but he's anothign brilliant player

The issue is that we haven't bought a mid. Either thats a funding issue, or something else.

It's a funding issue.

Everybody knows it's a funding issue.

& those in denial will refer back to our transfer policy right from the very start, doesn't make it not a funding issue.

It's a prioritisation issue. We could have spent the 40 odd million on a midfielder rather than Cody Gakpo but we have made a calculated decision that we're better served spending the money on a forward at the moment and waiting to address the midfield in the summer. We'll see whether that works or not. I don't have any real insight into the decision but our chance conversion this season has been horrendous, so maybe there's a school of thought that if we were converting chances it would paper over the cracks in our midfield enough to see us through to the summer. Dunno.

Exactly

So whys everyone kicking off on lijnders?

Who's knocking Ljinders for anything?

Some journocunt has made a story out of a non-story and people have corrected and educated him on what Ljinders role at the club is.

Seems very much like alot of the stuff coming out of the club is putting a target on his back. All the usual mouthpieces briefing about his outsized influence, I'd be getting my CV in order if I was him because it looks like he's going to be the fall guy for FSGs consistent failure to support the rebuilding of the squad.

To me it has this feel to it : "we have three choices for midfielders that fulfill our criteria perfectly, but none will be available this January. So do we go for someone else or continue working behind the scenes to finalise the deals for the Summer"?
We know very well that under Klopp, if there's a player we want and that agrees to a move, then we'll wait for them.

Gakpo may have been on the list of those being 'monitored' but with the injury to Diaz turning out far worse than expected and then Jota re-injuring himself and being ruled out for months, we clearly needed another left sided striker/winger and at that price it would have been rude to say no to him.

According to who? A few poxy journalists who suck John Henry's cock and sniff coke off Linda's tits?

The socalled Pep signings have not been bad, Diaz, Jota and even Nunez (who will come good). With Diaz and Jota out and Bobby picking up niggly injuries we only had two recognised forwards, so signing of Gakpo was needed. But we also needed a MF. Look at it from Klopp's and Pep's vantage point. We have Naby, Ox, CJ, Melo, Thiago, Hendo, Fab, Steph and Elliott. 7-9 players competing for 3 spots versus 2-3 players competing for 3 spots in FW the roles. You can see why they went for Gakpo.

The real issue is FSG and their tight purse strings, if you can't see that then your missing the forest for the trees. Spending £40m per season isn't Pep's fault. The signings we have got have been decent we just didn't get enough of them, and that blame is on FSG, not Salah or anyone else.

I have no idea who this guy is but people are retweeting him. However you know he is talking shit when he posts stuff like this

I have no problem waiting for the midfielders to become available, but what bothers me is if those deals fall through - as they did for Tchouameni in the summer - then we have nothing else lined up. When we went for a back up LB we tried for Jamal Lewis and when that didn't happen had Tsimikas keeping warm. I understand there is a need for a certain profile of player but we needed to bring in a physical midfielder last summer and when Tchouameni fell through there should have been an alternative move we could make. I'm concerned that if Bellingham plumps for City or Madrid we'll just be left floundering.

Funny though how our midfield offers no protection for our defense.
We are scoring/creating enough, but we are conceding way too much.

It is a priority issue too
And not just about funding
We have two recognised forwards in 4-3-3 system. Lets say we got another MF and didn't get a forward us fans will be complaining come feb if either Salah or Nunes got injured and Bobby had issues stringing two games together. £40m net spend, and one signing for a club wanting trophies isn't gonna work.

So if we are to believe the bull that's printed, come summer we're signing Nunes, Jude and Kone. What a crock of shit. How does summer change our transfer fortunes unless FSG do sell, and the new owners have allotted £200m aside for transfers?

Don't fall into the trap of creating a scapegoat in Lijenders. Even if his signings are Gakpo, Jota, Diaz and Nunez, they have largely been successful. Gakpo is needed but so is a MF

^ this 100%

That's the point, this 'Ljinders is Emperor Palpatine' stuff is coming from inside the club and it doesn't benefit Ljinders at all so I think somebody is putting his head on the block for when the inquest into this shitshow of a season begins.

Wait for a few days till the reports seep out about Steven Gerrard wanting to work with Klopp again - then you’ll see who is really behind the hatchet job on Mr Intensity.

I can’t wait for his new book on this season, called “Apathy”.
