Pellegrino

No mate, Pako was fired because he was carrying Alonso's baby which was concieved in Jose Mourinho's hair back in 2006 while Mourinho was visiting Zinadine Zidane in his secret Formby hide-away.

Zidane's hide-away was no "secret", it was common knowledge. I read about it on Koptalk.
I don't recall reading about that. Must have been because I never paid for insider membership.

Hyypia was probably the most influencial player behind the scenes with regards to helping the other players to understand Rafa's defensive game plan.

Pellegrino's English is shite isnt it??

Coaches that cant speak English... surely a bit daft... Just point and yell at where players are supposed to stand and hope for the best..

Remember the days when our defence would catch players consistantly with the offside trap. It was beautiful to watch at times when all 4 defenders were perfectly in-line when they pushed up quickly. Now.. its like a dot to dot puzzle of the Scottish coastline.

No, I can't possibly think back that far. Wait, actually it was over the last several years.

Our defence wasn't that bad last season. Isn't really fair to judge him.

Bit of an overreaction here to what was essentially quite a lighthearted thread.

For the record I don't think anyone is seriously blaming Pellegrino for this season but to be fair our defence has collapsed. Maybe there's no connection.

Oh and yes he may well have been a decent player in his day. Sadly he was embarrassingly bad for us. Worse than Nicky Tanner. And that's all I care about, sorry.
And yet, when he was here there were loads of current posters proclaiming how good he was and that this was what we'd been missing - a ball player at the back. Finally we had someone who could run the show and Sami was being ushered out the door; all of this from some very well respected posters too, I might add.

The game against Everton sticks in my mind; the number of posters wetting themselves over his performance in that game and saying he was going to be a sensation for us was mind blowing. 75 minutes of text book defending they said and the last 15 minutes he apparently "suffered from fatigue." Piss off - just happened there was no one in that Everton side who would cause trouble for a bloody tulip until Ferguson came on for them - co-incidentally at the 75 minute mark.

The number of games we lost in a 12 week period while Rafa decided that Pelle should be in there and Sami on the bench was a disgrace and cost us fourth spot that season. Fortunately he couldn't play CL and therefore was unable to sabotage Istanbul.

Fucking hell. That must've been the very height of Rafa Can Do No Wrong.
Anyone who said he was a classy defender for us and that he was a good signing should have been hounded off the forum then and there.

Also this was the same season that Benitez was clearly so desperate for experienced defensive cover that he froze Henchoz out the club just before signing Pellegrino.

Henchoz moved and was WOEFUL after he left us. Almost like his magic shoes had ran out of genie dust

That's not a bad idea at all

So we can add Pellebastard to the long, long list of people we want to fuck off out of Anfield:

Statler & waldorf
Benitez
Lucarse
Drossena
Insua
Macia
The fitness coach cunt
Plessis
Degen
Voronin

Any more we should ship out pronto?

Skrtel and Babel. Both are useless.

I hesitate to take issue with one of the forum's best posters in Wizardry but I honestly don't remember that many people praising Pellegrino. TBH my recollection is rather the contrary, that most were on his back from the start because of his glaring lack of pace and that the Everton game was very much the exception that proved the rule.

Have to agree though that benching Sami for him was a howler on Rafa's part.

To be honest I can't recall too many people praising him either. Or I may just have thought it wiser to ignore those people.

I do recall the Everton game though. Don't remember being particularly astounded by him then either, though that might've been one of those rare times when that other wonder buy Morientes had an ok game.

I remember Pellegrino being showered with praise last year when our defence was compact and not leaking goals. Wonder is it possible to dig up those old threads.

Am not disputing that Henchoz's time was coming to an end. I am saying that replacing him with someone older and slower was a very bad idea, and the games that Pellegrino featured in pretty much back this up

I remember this.

I seem to remember he played like a slow motion replay of himself. Also it was wierd because he didn't have a pip on him yet had a turning circle like razor ruddock.

Just got to Liverpool about 2 seasons too late I think. Was a bit like watching sick babbel.

It did happen JJ. I remember taking exception with several posters at the time since I thought the praise of Pelle's "ball playing skills" was massively mis placed. It also happened at the same time as a quote from Sami in a Finnish news paper was published in which he suggested that there were still some players who struggled to understand the complexities of Rafa's defensive plans.

The sentiment of these posters was largely split down the middle as to whether Pelle was in the team because Rafa was angry with Sami for speaking to a newspaper on the subject or because Pelle was simply a better defender. Either way it cost us a number of points which could have proved vital had we not enjoyed that glorious night in Istanbul.

To be honest it was hard to remain angry with Rafa over any of his decisions that year but this selection did rankle and the dedication of some posters to Rafa's greatness was eye popping. I said it for a couple of years that once Sami retired/moved we would find a large hole that was difficult to fill. We are so lacking in arial authority it has me on edge everytime a ball climbs into the box but, with him out of the club entirely now, it seems the big Finn was very influential on the training ground as well.

What I don't get is that whenever the camera pans to the bench, it's always him preparing the subs and looking busy with his clipboard. Where is Sammy?
To be fair, he can fuck off too. We have a pissweak core of coaches.
Hmmm, Sammy wasn't "pissweak" last season though ?

No, he wasn't, and players from other clubs have been reported before now as rating him highly when he coached them for England. Fact is we're currently in a slump which is adversely affecting people, on and off the pitch, who are well capable of better when we're on song. One of the many pitfalls we have to avoid is that of getting rid of good people along with the dead wood.

We have a collection of coaches thats probably been teh strongest we've had certainly since Shanks' bootroom. Sammy Lee Assistant Manager, experience of managing a top level side, Kenny Dalglish with the kids, nuff said. We have the former manager of a sucessful Olympiakos side as a youth team coach not to mention another coach prominent at Barca's Academy. Compare that with our rivals.

Ok. Well personally I would say the coaching staff we had when we, you know, won loads of league titles in the 70s and 80s was probably ever so slightly better.

...or the coaching staff at some of our rivals who've...well... won loads of things like that league we're playing in.

Surely it's too soon to make such comparisons though. We do now have the coaching team that Kopking describes, but it hasn't been there for long.
