Im wondering what Hodgson will do with the current squad, obviouslyy some of the bigger names he doesnt have a choice if they stay or go, but who of the mid level players do you think he will sell?

He would do well to get rid of Babel, Lucas, Insua and Riera.

He does not need a season to realise these players are not up to scratch, because it's very obvious already.

Agree no doubts about Lucas, however getting rid of Babel, Insua and Riera all at once leaves us with nobody on the left side, back and front. With Benayoun most likely off and Aurelio leaving, we'd have no left side / sided players at all.

We replace them.

I don't intend on playing with 9 players each week.

Reina, Cavalieri
Aurelio, Insua
Carra, Agger, Skrtel, Zorba
Johnson, Degen
Gerrard, Lucas, Masher, Aquilani
Riera, Babel, Yossi, Maxi
Torres, Kuyt, N'Gog

I've highlighted those who have either already gone or are almost certs to leave based on what we know.

That leaves us with 17 senior players. When you take into consideration that we'll probably want to get rid of guys like Degen who contribute nothing and the fact that there are question marks over the futures of Torres and Gerrard, the squad looks in serious trouble. We can't really afford to sell that many players otherwise we'll end up leaving ourselves desperately short in numbers.

Roy might decide to give everyone a clean slate. We may be surprised by a few especially if he actually plays them in their rightful positions.

I can't wait for things to start happening. It will give us a good idea of what to expect this season!

I wonder if he can get performances out of players better than Rafa. Take Zamora ever shite, then had the best season of his career under Hodgson, Babel could be like Zamora, we all know he has the talent to step up.

Exactly my point. I do believe that Aqualani could be sensational under Roy but let's not jump the gun just yet!

Zamora's best ever seasons were surely at Brighton, where he virtually single-handedly brought them back-to-back promotions, no?

(Okay, probably not, but there's not many opportunities to big up the Seagulls, so you gotta take 'em where you can get 'em)

I would be disappointed if Gerrard, Torres, Reina, Carra, Johnson, Agger and maybe Kuyt were to leave

Am resigned to Mascherano and Yossi going no matter who was in charge and I'm not too fussed about the rest of the squad. As long as money is there to replace them all of course.

I wonder if Dalla Valle might get his chance a bit sooner now. It was Hodgson who was trying to buy him for Fulham wasn't it?

Yeah, it was. He should have played a bit last year when we were desperation short of strikers, but instead Benitez chose to keep Dirk on the wing and the tried and failed N'gog up front.

Im hoping there is some truth to the Insua to Fiorentina rumour. Will be a good start to business this summer if we sell him

True, we'd concede less goals if we just threw a Liverpool shirt on the left sided corner flag each week.

Yeah we may struggle with the offside trap but im convinced the corner flag has more pace

And better positioning, obv.

Well we need a new left back anyway as Insua is all we have, which is a terrible state of affairs to be in.

If someone is silly enough to pay any kind of fee for Insua then we should sell and try to get someone decent and hopefully get someone cheap/free or promote a reserve as back up.

Yeah I forgot him and el (super)zhar too.
That should add another 250k to the kitty.

We did that with Insua and he was head and shoulders above the other reserves when he came up.

I think we'd need to get a first teamer and a backup if he's sold.
Unless we get another CB and use Agger as cover for LB. KHL is always on about Kjaer (sp?), although I didn't see much at this world cup to convince me.

Hasn't Kelly covered there? I'd like to see him become cover for Johnson though next season.

As much as I like Woy, don't you think that he's getting the job because

(1) There is no 'acceptable' takeover in sight
(2) He won't complain when the Board sell Masch, Gerrard & Torres & he gets 15mil back to spend

If we were getting taken over by a gazillionaire on 15th July, do you think we'd be appointing Roy Hodgson now?

Give it a week or so. If Hodgson's not here, then the 15th rumour might be true. If he is here, we ain't getting take over and he's here to allow the owners to service the debt.

Agree with most of that, but he's not been hired just for the owners to asset strip.

He's here because he's proven he can over-achieve on a tight budget. Gerrard and Torres will go nowhere.

Because they played about 100 games en-route to the Europa Cup final

They finished 6th the season before.
