History dictates we are not going to win it after a start like this.

Of course we can still win it but then so can city. Will they? I doubt it very much.

I'm not even bothered I never expected a serious title challenge this year when we lost Xabi and didn't buy a second striker or a threatening winger.

Without Alonso we need Gerrard in the middle running things and to do that we need another quality striker with Torres or else we find Gerrard and Torres isolated as we have seen already against Spurs and Villa to some degree. Lucas simple cannot pull the strings.

Hopefully we will sort out our defence in time for the business end of the cups but as for the league those expecting a big run of wins or a title challenge will be bitterly disappointed by xmas.

Last year was the exception. We will be out of the race by November again as per usual.

I just hope we beat Utd home and away.

DB, that is the most self indulgent drivel i've read in a long time. Oh look at me i'm not even bothered anyway, I knew we had no chance, i'll keep reiterating that we didn't replace Alonso or buy someone to help Torres, over and over again. Give it a rest. You only come on these days when we lose to thrown in your predictable doom and gloom mongering, I told ye we had no chance, etc.

We all want Liverpool to challenge and do well, what we don't need is our own fans constantly ramming it down our throats that we've been poor early doors. We know. You haven't stumbled upon some divine wisdom. Sometime I questions whether some fans can nearly take comfort when we lose, safe in the knowledge they can log on and proclaim "I told ye so".

You used to be a happy go lucky poster, ever the optimist in fact. Has someone on your travels written you the most OTT reality cheque in the world, so that you feel the need to constantly tell us the 'harsh facts'.

"Hopefully we will sort out our defence in time for the business end of the cups". That line even stinks of defeatism. Try supporting Liverpool for a change. You might like it.

Aye.

If you can't express an open opinion of your club amonst your own fans where can you?
Just because I'm realistic does not make me any less of a fan.
I would love nothing more than to see us win 15 game on the bounce and sit top of the league. And I'd only be too glad to come on here or anywhere else and admit I got it 100% wrong.
Time will tell I guess. I don't post as often anymore because of the time zones and I don't like disagreeing with so many so often. So I only post the odd comment here and there.
As for always being negative I don't think so but your entitled to your opinion. I try to remain balanced most of the time. If you want to see swings and round abouts you should read the pre post threads from the 1st three games.
Its crazy how the opinions of people can change so drastically from game to game. I've formed my opinion on our short comings from watching us over the last few years and it will take som convincing for me to believe we can win the league without some changes. Again I would love to be wrong.

Would you prefer I act all happy and optimistic just to get on with everyone and keep the mood upbeat?

If it makes any difference I think Johnson has been amazing and he's one of about 7 spots that I do not think we need addressing now for the 1st team and that is a great sign.

One of the things about this forum, and I don't know whether this is the case for DB or not, is that if you are generally pessimistic about a season, as I have been for this season, and you post after a loss, you tend to want to clarify that you aren't being reactionary, that it isn't a knee jerk.

However, in so doing, you end up seeming as if you are saying "I told you so" when in reality you'd like nothing better than to be wrong.

I asked Oncy to sell me on the koolaid, because I want to believe, but it's just not happening for me.

Nobody cares what you think.

I think we can afford to lose another 2 games this season, so we'd have to win the majority of what's left.
It's unlikely with the current squad, but, ya never know, some of the other big teams might start falling apart also 🙂

Are we out of the title race, no not from a points perspective.

But, we are low on confidence, playing poorly and not looking like contenders. Our midield looks disjointed, torres looks sulky, the defence is leaking.

Having said that these things can go just as quickly as they arrive. We need to win 4 on the bounce easily, then grind out a couple more vistories after that to build proper confidence. Once we have that then anything is possible.

Of course not Pat. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If everyone agreed with each other it'd be a boring place to visit. My only gripe is that you seem to pushing your negativity to the extreme. Constantly logging on with this drivel about you told us we wouldn't  challenge etc.

You dont think we can challenge, fair enough, your point stands. So there is no need to come on after every game we fail to win and remind us again and again. Us losing reaffirms your stance. I for one would hate to be a position when us losing proves me right. It's a horrible no win situation. I know you say you'd love to be proved wrong, then why the constant reminders that you knew all along we'd fail to challenge.
It stinks a bit, I know we lost, but hey my theory is coming up smelling roses.

It's like the Rafa 'haters', we lose they get to lambast him. Like the Keane 'haters', if he didn't score, they get to lambast him, Cisse, Crouch, the list goes on. I'd hate to have to sit so firmly in one camp that us losing meant I could still take solace in the fact it bigged up my 'realistic' opinions. Not really a win - win situation.

Ah don't mind me DB, i'll just ignore your posts if we lose to Bolton.

I still believe we'll win it

We need to find the rhythm we had at the end of last season quickly, and our start has made things difficult (but then we pretty much always make things difficult for ourselves these days)

But I'd rather have a poor run right at the start of the season than smack in the middle like we usually do. Alonso is a big loss and I don't know much about aquilani beyond reputation but the team is still capable of a long unbeaten run. we'll need luck with injuries, but then which team doesn't?

I'm certain a lower points tally will win the title this year. three games in, as bad as the start has been, ain't the time to write obituaries

We're going to win the league.
haha
I dont get it?
We've got another 5-6 weeks of Lucas.

And we have to pray that Aquilani stays fit once he's back.
Not only do we have to pray he is fit, we also have to pray that he is capable of an almost instant adaption to the Prem. His currently Serie A proven and international proven, many proven player internationally and in other leagues have fallen flat on there faces.

As for are we out of it, NO, we do need to react quickly and get things stabilised and good run underway!!

I am not optimistic i am not pessimistic, realistic is the only way forward!!! We can do it, but we need to get on and do it with some self belief!!!

We're still clearly in it!

Our next 4 games:

Bolton A
Burnley H
WHU A
Hull H

15 points from 7 games

Scum:

Gooners H
Spurs A
City H
Stoke A

Chavs:

Burnley H
Stoke A
Spurs H
Wigan A

Gooners:

Scum A
City A
Wigan H
Fulham A

City:

Portsmouth A
Gooners H
Scum A
WHU H

Spurs:

Birmingham C H
Scum H
Chavs A
Burnely H

The Chavs look like they might be able to build a reasonable lead early doors, but all of our other rivals will be dropping points over the next 4 games.

It's not impossible, obviously. Utd lost four games last season and still went on to win it, that included a battering from us at home too. So the Villa and Spurs results can be overcome.

But I don't see how anyone can look at the current line-up and think that's going to happen. Changes need to be made, and we need to bring in at least one more attacking player, otherwise we leave ourselves very thin, especially if we're gonna need Gerrard to play deeper as the season goes on.

I don't think we're gonna win it, I said at the end of last season for us to win it, we needed to retain the spine of our team and stick with 4231, that obviously hasn't happened.

Champions don't lose two of their opening three games. I hope I'm wrong, obviously.
