The Serbia international was initially handed the Reds' No.10 jersey after arriving from Standard Liege on a free transfer, but insists he was more than happy to swap it for the one he occupies for his country when Joe Cole arrived last week.
"Switching shirts didn't bother me," he said. "Number 14 is my favourite and it is the number I wear for the national team.
"I feel good that I have got the same number here and I hope it will be lucky for me. I hope it will bring me much success. When the switch came I was happy."
Jovanovic featured on the left side of midfield during a 45 minute run out against Kaiserslautern at the weekend.
The 29 year-old made his name as a striker during his time with previous club Standard Liege, but admits he is content to play any position if it is for the good of the team.
He said: "It doesn't matter which position I play. That is a question for the coach. Of course, I have my own opinion but it won't be a problem if I have to play on the left wing again.

"Maybe with a bit of time and when I know all the small things about playing in that position, then it will help me.
"The main thing at the minute is for me to get the feeling of the team. It's not going to be easy because everything is new and we don't have much time.
"But I will be giving everything. I have got to use every minute and every small chance with Liverpool to show I deserve to be here.
"It's not easy to play your first game after the World Cup. But it's okay because I always try to do my best and give everything in training sessions. I hope I will be getting better and better and in one month it will not be a problem."
Jovanovic is hoping to show Reds fans what he can do in Thursday's Europa League clash against FK Rabotnicki and reckons the imminent arrival of his family on Merseyside will ensure he gets his Liverpool career off to a flying start.
"I expect they will be with me in Liverpool soon," he added. "We have got to choose a house but it will really help when I see them.
"Saying that, everyone has been really kind with me so far and made me feel very welcome. There is a good atmosphere and a good feeling at the club.
"I am really grateful to everyone for helping me feel so welcome. The coach, the players - everyone has been brilliant.
"When I get more practice and I am fitter, I am confident that I can help the team. I have never doubted my ability."
