Fabio Aurelio is an option at left midfield according to Roy Hodgson.

Aurelio made his return from injury against West Ham on Saturday when he came on for the last twenty minutes in a left midfield role. It's a position he could get more games in says the boss.

"He can definitely play as a left midfielder," said Hodgson.

"When we re-signed him we were thinking we needed two good left-backs at the club and that he'd be competing for one of those places in the team, but I saw him do very well in Trabzonspor when he moved up into midfield, and he tells me that when he was in Valencia he played in midfield very often.

"It's definitely an option. If he can stay fit then it could be a really good boost to our team. Already I've got him pencilled in for the game against Steaua Bucharest, so let's hope he can stay fit until then and I can see him in a 90-minute game."

i saw this and considered posting, but i didn't want to upset anyone

Talk about a hard slap in the face with a wet sock.

Read the headline and thought; 'wooooohooooo Hazard's on his way'... or something epic like that.

Heh, the 'according to Roy' bit prepared me for worst.

Fair point, but he might be on to something with this IMO. Even when Fabio plays LB defending isn't the strongest part of his game, besides which playing LM with fewer defensive duties may reduce his chances of getting injured.

I love the way that most of the site wants to see johnson tried on the wing, and roy considers putting our best left back at left mid.

People will find anything to slate Roy about, its a nothing article and nothing we don't already know, just read the thread title though and start flapping everywhere.

"our new LM according to Roy"

Bit of a difference.

Ha ha - I wasn't having a go at Roy. I was just trying (with that title) to get what I got 😉

Heh, well it worked because people read what they want to read and interpret what he says any way they can to give a negative slant. Queue Neil going mental and telling us he needs sacking and Brendan calling him a cunt.

"so let's hope he can stay fit until then and I can see him in a 90-minute game."

He certainly is very good at man management...

'Man-management'?

This is Mr. Glass we're talking about; that statement has been made by every Liverpool supporter and Rafa for years.

No problems for me as he is actually left footed. Which is more than most of our options there. He takes a good set piece and can cross.

It's no more bizarre than Rafa playing him at CM.

Heh yep. The only piece of information I got from this article is Aurelio won't start against Spurs.

Maybe its just me.....

But, Aurellio looked in top condition against West Ham... i thought he looked stronger and quicker. Like a super whippett.

Im looking forward to seeing what he can do over the next season. Ive always liked him.

well, that was disappointing, which pretty much sums up roy's entire regime.

Quelle surprise

Read the fucking article and the thread rather than the headline.

*Bangs head against wall again*

I think aurelio is a classy player hampered by injuries, not unlike agger.

Me too, he was superb the last time he managed to stay fit for a longer period. Unfortunately that was about 2 years ago

Aurelio can definately play there and has before but Maxi is excelling there at the minute!

Riise was a better player in both positions

yup

Maybe more reliable, as he was never injured, but I'd question whether he was better. Riise and Aurelio both take a good set piece but whilst Riise relied on power, Aurelio has better placement. No matter, they're better than PK.
