Against WBA it was Klava/Lovren
Klavan and Lovren
I think Matip is fucking terrible.
To be fair Virgil looks shit to me too.
The other pair look limited but their first thought at least is to defend.
Ultimately without a DM or any form of defensive coaching and with two keepers who concede pretty much every shot on target it barely matters.

It really is a terrible state of affairs when people think Klavan is better than the rest. He is a journeyman. He is awful. But you know what, you are probably right.
Well that's a plus.
And our defensive record improved markedly when Klavan had a run in the team...only to get worse when he was bombed out for our £75m defender.
If only that were true.
We can live and hope.
Hmm. I think VVD is a good player (Christ, for £75m he fucking wants to be), but I think it's unfair to expect miracles when he's got one of the two goalscopers behind him, two wildly inconsistent young RBs and his defensive partner is either Djimi Matip, fucking Lovren or The Binman.
I'm not really sure which of those is the least shit partner for VVD, but I'd simply prefer to re-state my case that VVD needs a new CB partner, stat.
And I think what we'll see in the long run. For now though, I'd stick with Klavan over either of the other two.

I hate Lovren the most. He's dreadful.
I dunno why at a point where we seemed to be getting a bit better defensively we've now gone back to rotating our defence every fucking game. I would have thought the best thing to do with Van Dijk would be to keep everyone else the same around him for as long as possible.

There is no best CB pairing. Cause as soon as one of two has a bad game this type of thread will pop up again.
And to be honest I think one of the reasons why our CB's are looking bad because our fullbacks have been shit too.
Get the old Clyne back, play Robinson and our defence will improve. Most importantly get a fucking DM Klopp!!!!

There isn't one because Lovren, Matip and Klavan aren't good enough.
There would be one if klopp bought a good one to play with VVD.
I think Klavan is being harshly dealt with, not only on here reading the opinions, but also by Klopp.
He was solid for at least 6 weeks, maybe longer before we bought Van Dijk.
But he's the one who got dropped to make way for Van Dijk, despite Lovren & Matip making the errors prior to his arrival, not him.
I know he was cheap, he's not the youngest & he didn't have the best of starts to his time at LFC.
But I'm a great believer in judging all players on their performances, not reputation. I thought Klavan was looking really good until Van Dijk came and he deserved first dibs on partnering him. But he's not had a look in.
Personally I think Klavan should be starting for us and if he kept playing like he was the 6 or so weeks before Van Dijk came, then we'd all be delighted with him.

We've conceded the 2nd least amount of shits in the Top Five leagues in Europe.
So the set up doesn't seem the problem in open play. At set plays, I think it is very questionable.
