I think our Defence under Roy Evans managed better than this..

Thing is on paper we have a decent back line.. it is just at the moment, and under Brandon.. where a wee bit shit at the back. Doesn't matter which back line we go with, we always Seem to look like conceding..
 
"Why do we need to play a DM at home?" was the anthem of this site for the last 5 years.

I find this newly found enlightenment that not having one can perhaps lead to goals being conceded utterly fucking hilarious. Well done people.

Wouldn't say it was the last five years, as opposed to the year when our home strategy and form cost us the title...
 
It might be Allen that has to give way. He had a positive start, but has been distributing poorly lately and is nowhere near a DM. Lucas, Stevie and Nuri in the middle.

Well, the "Why do we need to play a DM at home?" thing in isolation is dumb, sure... but when you put into the context it was said at certain times, it turns into why do we need to play a dedicated DM alongside Alonso and that argument has far more merit. Alonso is very good defensively and a million times better than the likes of Allen and Henderson in that regard. Certainly in the latter stages of games we could've thrown caution to the wind on the basis that Alonso could do a decent defensive job in the middle of the park.

To be honest, I find that the "DM sized hole in our midfield" argument misses the point somewhat anyway. Would we be more solid with one in the side? Sure. But it'd be like sticking a plaster on a gaping wound.

Rodgers needs to work on the fact that we leave our entire half open with only 2 or 3 players occupying it for the opposition to counter into. We're not Barcelona - we can't afford to camp our entire team in the oppositions half because we don't keep the ball as well and we don't carry the same fear.
 
Two corpses could have done the same job as Coates and Carra last night. The way they stood there watching Di Natale doing keepy ups on the edge of the box, they may as well have started clapping.

They shileded him away from goal. The midfielder should have picked up the guy that actually scored.

I think that's very harsh on allen. He's been excellent in every match bar a couple of stray passes. He really makes us tick. I thought henderson was also excellent last nite and taking him off contributed to our undoing.

Harsh maybe, but we live in a competitive world 😉 he has been ok, not brilliant. And his role require a better reading of the game when we don't have the ball. The opposition slices through our midfield to easy. hence we need more tactical awarness in the area.

To me Allen should fight it out with Nuri and Stevie when Lucas is back, and he is the third best of those three.

Hendo played well. Shelvey played well in first half too. we have plenty of cover there at the moment..

On performances this season he has been better than stevie. I know they're different types of players but he's performed better. Id consider having henderson in the first team until lucas comes back, with the other three you mention rotated. We need someone dedicated to protecting the back four.

He has definately contributed more to "the system" than Stevie. For some reason Stevie still looks like he lacks a little bit on freshness (I separate fitness and freshness). But he scores goals and you'll never see him dropped from an important game.

That's true. What about henderson? You think he deserves a couple of matches in league as dm?

I don't know... I am sure he is smart enough to adjust to that role, and he is physical strong enough to do it. But when he is not giving the chance to try that role in Cup games I am not sure.

Well allen isn't a natural DM and has only been playing there because of the injury to lucas. Rodgers has said that once lucas is back he will play further forward. I've a feeling stevie will be pushed into the front 3 with our midfield being lucas, allen and sahin.

I'd be very happy with that midfield 3 if Lucas regains his form of last season ...

Yeah thats the thing isn't it. Pretty much our whole midfield depends on lucas getting back to the form where he destroyed chelsea and city, otherwise we're gonna keep leaking goals. Would be nice if henderson could develop into a good DM.

I think he could easily do it ... He's a good tackler, can make the 'simple' passes and has got a good engine.
 
its meant to be 2-3 months isn't it? Its only been just over a month so far. So got a long way to go yet.
