Here’s how the season will go.
Nunez will kick on and boss it. We will get a bunch of players back from injury and sign a new CM in Jan and have an incredible second half to the season after the WC.
Eventually we will miss out on the league by five points and will rue to losses to Forest and Leeds.

So rinse and repeat

Carrick making a good start at Middlesbrough too - 3 wins 1 draw 1 defeat (4 away games). He was unbeaten in his 3 games caretaker spell at Man Utd (wins against Villarreal and Arsenal, draw vs. Chelsea).

Parker, Lampard, Gerrard and him (or even O'Neil) - seems like midfielders have a higher tendency to step into management? [emoji14]

He might be more into coaching than Gerrard (judging by the interviews about how Beale was mainly the one in charge of training)

I've always rated Carrick. Wanted us to sign him back when he was playing for West Ham.
Intelligent playmaking midfielders more often than not make decent managers.
Ancelotti, Guardiola, Zidane, Arteta etc.

Carrick does have the makings of a good coach. The decision to step back from the United job was gutsy and correct.

Why are we "auditioning" players at other clubs then signing them for like twice as much?

Because we are owned by FSG. That's what we do....we are the intersection of "risk free" and "cheap as fuck" in the Venn diagram. That was where Harvey Elliott was

And then we go and pay 100 mill for Nunez.
I mean we could afford to that "way back when", but not in todays market.
Everyone knew how good Bellingham was, we could have got him for like £25 mill plus a bunch of extra incentives from the Brummies, but no no, we needed to see him succeed at Dortmund first and now they want £100 mill or more for him.

WTF. I understand fans of other clubs wanting to make Nunez look more expensive/less value but even they don't go to as much as £100m ! We paid £64m pending additional payments for wayposts met. Up to £85m. Where on earth does 100m comes from ? At this moment in time it is £64m.

I assume it's £64m plus the cost of missing out on the CL next season

I honestly couldn't be arsed looking up the exact figure, just went with what I've read in the papers.

We can't afford to blood players who aren't proven. And we cant afford to buy players who are.

There a Schrodinger's midfielder joke in here somewhere, for anyone wittier than I am.
I totally agree that it's a risk.
A risk Spurs were willing to take with Bale, Leeds with Rio, Man U with Rooney etc.
Sure, there's been a few arguable duds like Shaw, Walcott, Phil Jones, Ox, but I can't remember us doing that kind of signing ever.

Oh come on ! That's cherry-picking in the extreme ignoring all the expensive failures and ignoring our expenditure on VvD and Ali (buying proven players). And before using Spurs as an example maybe look at what they've achieved compared to ... oh I don't know, us? Bale or Mo or Sadio or Robbo or Fabs? I much prefer our transfer policy even though it may be frustrating at times.

But that's my point, we paid record fees for some of those players.

We've kinda tried recently with Elliot and Carvalho.

But we let a tribunal decide the fee for Elliott - £4.3m.
We were going the same route with Carvalho but decided to give them £5 mill upfront instead.

It's not like what Spurs and Man U paid for my examples above.

I don't mind this strategy, but it cannot be the only angle.
