I think you're mistaking a carefully designed contrary stance for just being wrong about everything all of the time.

Which is correct, but as I said it's possible to mistake "annoying, obstinate fuck" for yer common-or-garden "fucking cretin".

I noticed this a while ago with Dreamy, it's quite a smart move (relatively speaking)

He had the self-awareness to realise that he was thick and wrong about everything, but also knew he wasn't clever enough to actually observe and collate facts and data, and then overlay his own opinion, in order to be right about things.

The solution?

Carry on being wrong about everything, but add a little bit of snarky attitude and swagger, and hey presto! He's not a fucking cretin anymore, he's being contrary.

(Of course, the curtain is often pulled back when he tries to insert "facts" that are actually entirely wrong, cf Bellerin being a left-back and Tierney taking his place in the side)
