I know this place sometimes likes to just jam everything altogether but I think this is definitely deserving of a new thread.
Anyone watching the opening ceremony? I heard that due to slow construction of the site, they haven't even had a full run through yet of the ceremony. Should make interesting viewing.
And what's the tip for Brazil vs. Croatia? I'll be tipping a 2 - 0 for Brazil.

I haven't watched an opening ceremony since Diana Ross broke the goal with her thunderous penalty in USA 94 but I might watch it tonight.

I think it'll be a rarity, a really good opening game. The ceremony, not so entertaining.

Scoreline, 3-1 to the hosts.

Sadly the Irish won't be there but here's some 'fun' stats for you.
  • Robbie Keane(3) has scored as many goals in the World Cup as Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Lionel Messi (1) and Wayne Rooney(0) put together.
  • Gary Breen has scored more World Cup goals than Wayne Rooney.
  • Steve Staunton has drawn more World Cup games (8) than any other player in history.
  • Ireland hold the record for the highest ever finish at a World Cup despite not winning a match (1990).
  • Ireland have the best appearances at a World Cup/qualified from first round ratio (3:3) of any country.
  • Robbie Keane (3) also has more World Cup goals than the entire English squad (Gerrard 2, everyone else 0).

I think this will be a surprise result - I can see the Croats getting a draw or a win. Brazil is under a shit load of pressure, not just because they're the host nation but because the country will go into melt down if they don't win it ...

I am worried what will happen in the streets if Brazil lose.
I'm also worried what will happen if they win. 🙂
3-1 Brazil.
I'll probably take a look at the opening ceremony, sure when in Rome.

I've been really looking forward to this world cup, all the matches are on at decent times. 3 - 1 Brazil

there's a couple of surprising facts in the alright.

Anyone found a world cup widget for Android? I haven't found one (there's a fake one listed but that's it) & have tried over 10 apps but none allow a widget installation.

I'm amazed, I thought there'd be loads of them.

Read yesterday that only 6 England players in the squad have been to a World Cup before, was surprised by that one, just goes to show how much can change in 4 years.

Mad to think the likes of Shaw and Sterling were only 14 and 15 years old at the time of the last World Cup, wonder who those kids are now? hopefully our Rossiter is one.

If they win, you're gonna get a few hot brazilian birds if you win ... if they lose, a few croatians ... win-win.

Sofascore?

One that just lists games in play & scorelines would be ideal. Similar to the sky sports widget that feeds off their app, but obv able to display more than one scoreline.

For me, Brazil look better at the back than they do upfront which is unusual for a Brazil team.

Hulk - pants this season
Bernard - Proper shit this season
Neymar - very hit and miss this season
Jo - 1 in 3 in a rubbish brazillian league
Fred- binned off by Lyon for being shit and then has a decent record in a rubbish brazillian league

They've got some very good defenders in Thiago, Dante, Marcelo, Alves though.

.

Is it that unusual, though? It feels to me that every four years we get the same TV hype about 'samba football' and all that crap and then we see a team that is pretty European in terms of tactics (and cynicism) and, aside from a few imaginative players, quite dull. Apart from the wonderful 82 side I can't say I've found Brazil that entertaining.

Neymar will be boss in this tournament regardless of being hit and miss for Barca.
15 goals in 41 games isnt that bad in your first year in Europe.

He's already on the same goals amount for Brazil as Pele and Ronaldo were at 49 caps so he does well there.

It might help Neymar that he's the main man again.

I read bet365 have Neymar anytime tonight at 4/1 for new customers. Max bet €20.

Except he's not fit to lace their boots.

Ronaldo was a beast at his age, a beast. Neymar looks like a step-over dive-merchant at best at the moment.
