[article]Amidst news of the signing of Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Liverpool had also begun talks with Inter Milan over midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 21 year old Croatian midfielder looks set to leave Inter Milan this summer with the club demanding a €30m fee for his services.[/article]

Well done Di Marzio.

Gazetto Dell Sport were only reporting this last month!

Not sure why we'd still be in for him to be honest

The way I read it is that in him reporting it now, maybe something more has happened. Di Marzio is very hit and miss these days, but seems as this is an Italian based player, maybe he might be a bit better than usual.

And they were apparently talking crap. The Italian press has reported about these "bids" for a month. But its been confirmed that they havent received any.
I think we're interested but he's not a priority. That may obviously change but this sounds like this seasons Gaston Ramirez.

As dmishra says, holding midfielder first. I dont think we need a player like Kovacic now.

We know there were talks between the teams, as was reported. Maybe no official bids, but we had people in Milan discussing matters with Inter.

We know that a second time because we know Skrtel had an opportunity to go to Inter.

And we know that Di Marzio makes a living from idiots clicking onto his website so it's in his interests to make up nonsensical stories about interesting players.

Don't get me wrong, a straight swap of Firmino and Kovacic for that money grabbing bouffant haired bastard would be an amazing deal for us. A bit like getting rid of Torres and getting Suarez.

I'm still to be convinced he's a priority. If there is one thing we know its that the Italian media talk a lot of bollocks.

But, if we do get him he's a great talent. You just feel that we could have improved the team by throwing that money at Illaramendi

I think Kovacic and Illarramendi are both off the table now after Firmino, but if we were to sign them both, shit the bed, we'd have some midfield/frontline next season.

Liverpool STEP UP £21m Mateo Kovacic move after SEALING £29m Roberto Firmino deal

LIVERPOOL are set to push ahead with a move for Mateo Kovacic after sealing a £29million move for Roberto Firmino.

Reports yesterday suggested the Reds were willing to make a £15m offer for the Croatian.
Inter are ready to let the 21-year-old depart after sealing a £25m deal for Geoffrey Kondogbia earlier this week.
But reports in Italy suggest Liverpool may still have to up their bid somewhat.
It is claimed that Inter want at least £21m for Kovacic to help cover the cost of Kondogbia.
And after splashing out £29m on Firmino, it is suggested that the Anfield outfit won't be scared off by Inter's asking price for Kovacic either.

Mateo Kovacic is a target for Liverpool
In addition to Firmino, Liverpool have already landed Danny Ings, James Milner, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez this summer.
And while the rest of those players came relatively cheaply, £50m on Firmino and Kovacic represents a significant outlay for Brendan Rodgers.
The moves suggest that Liverpool may be ready to offload Raheem Sterling to Manchester City this summer, but only if they receive an offer of - perhaps not coincidentally - £50m from the Citizens.

I would think it was either Firmino or Kovacic, not both.

They're different players though, I think we're going for a backbone and a bit of tenacity through the middle. Kovacic would play deeper and would be great driving the team forward.

@AnfieldHQ96: Just interviewed Paul Joyce...told me Liverpool have NO interest in Mateo Kovacic & he is puzzled by constant links to him. #lfc

Classic smokescreen right there. Fucking hell, this could well be on. I'm away to get my meat pack and throwaway BBQ from the Illarramendi thread.

Supposedly signing for Madrid for 30 million + ...

I guess Inter replace him with Lucas, and we replace Lucas with Asier!
