I actually hate that game as it reminds of so many what ifs. What If Rafa hadn't gone on that rant. What if we didn't blow our lead in the league. What if that Torres stayed. What Aurelio had stayed fit, what if 🙁
Wasnt the rant well before this game, if memory serves me correctly Rafa brought his sheet of facts out in early jan after some back and forth sniping in the press between him and Ferguson after we had drawn a load of very winnable games and
I remember reading once that we picked up more points after the rant than we did before it, so the idea that we collapsed after it and it was some kind of Fergie mind game is a total myth
We lost that title because we couldnt break down shite teams who parked the bus, dont think Rafas rant or Aurelio had much to do with it, Torres on the other hand was badly missed

I watched that game in a ski resort Italy. The only Non-Italian in the bar. Was going mental and getting some rather odd looks from the locals.

Just because he was 100% right doesn't mean it didn't come across as a rant. And I think the stat about picking up more points after that news conference is wrong.

Correct leaving us dependent on a badly struggling Robbie Keane. Torres only started 24 league games in the 08/09 season

What if people stopped fucking calling it a rant.... he was calm and collected with a hand written list of things he wanted to say, none of which was incorrect and all of which needed fucking saying. It wasn't a rant at all, it was a gamble.
Sadly he lost because in the next game the fucking Ref ruled out a perfectly good Gerrard goal against Stoke in the the 3rd minute and we wnet on to draw and then the had too many points gap. We fucking battered United that season.

If Rafa's name had been Dave it would have been 'Dave's Diatribe'; if he'd been called Martin it would have been 'Martin's Meltdown''. His name starts with an 'r' so whatever he says is a rant. He could whisper it, he could mime it, he could point silently to a series of equations, he could just sit there and communicate it via moving his eyebrows, and it would still be a 'rant'.
I thought the Rafa rant was spot on. Its just that the media and FA where so far up Fergusons ass, Rafa was made to look like the fool.. The media Rafa hate campaign bandwagon then started.
Everything he said in that rant was spot on.. Probably the timing of it wasn't his best judgement..
