OMFG Hammers to replace Pellegrini with Gollum

Not open for further replies.
Been on cards for a while.

Didn't he manage there before? My West Ham mates are sick of it all. The club is so badly managed across the whole thing. Shit owners. Playing staff not up to job and need a massive clear out and rebuild. Gollum might instil some fight there but his style won't be appreciated - look at Fat Sam. Got them their highest Prem finish and they couldn't wait to get rid.

If I'm honest, I was wondering if it's a role that might interest Gerrard. Gets him Premiership experience. Plays good style but with desire and passion. Has good contacts around football to bring in a good mixture of youth and experience.

West Ham mates laughed and asked why he'd leave Rangers for West Ham? Simple, it's a challenge and not too dissimilar to that he faced at Rangers. Poor disjointed and demotivated playing staff. Difficult owners. High weight of expectation from passionate but hard to please fan base. Plus it's free hit. West Ham can't get worse. They're headed for relegation at this rate and a lot of their fans are resigned to it and disinterested because of the complete situation. He fails and it's not unexpected. He keeps them up and gets to rebuild the squad and plays his brand of football and he will be a hero and he gets premiership managerial experience.

Thoughts?

My work colleague is as pure a West Ham fan as you can get, which basically means despite his constant bitchiness they actually enjoy the routine failure of the club because they like to call their players lazy cunts. That aside - its been too much for them now, so I think this change will be welcome, but I don't think it is one for Gerard - but rather for someone like Rafa who I think will probably come in next season - I am guessing Moyes is for the short term - till end of season ?

Gerard would struggle to motivate this lot, it is sadly one of those clubs with a great following in probably London and Essex, and as such for many players it is never their final destination or even a planned destination. They like to upset parties for the big teams, but fail to perform on a weekly basis and even managers that have succeeded like Slavan Bilic could only motivate them for one season. Also I don't think West Ham fans and their players would take too kindly to a manager who everyone - like the universe knows would walk out of that club in the middle of a CL final if ever LFC came asking him to manage them.

Rafa on an 18 month contract with a potential extension depending on where they are in 18 months is a good shout and would suit both parties.

He'd make them tactically harder to beat. But with those owners, i think it would end in tears quickly even if they stayed up and became more consistent. They rarely back managers properly and he regularly falls out with owners, especially the type who are currently running that club.

I don't know why your friends blame the owners, my mate does not as he thinks they have provided decent investment in players, which they have done. He puts the blame at the door of the manager plain and simple, I mean his face after the losses was just emotionless - and I think that is what gets my mates temper up, there is no urgency or anger. What was obvious from a few weeks ago was the way West Ham responded in their victory against Chelsea (away) for the first time in 17 years. Strangely enough - that performance by the team came after every pundit on TV criticised them as being 'Rubbish', 'Lazy' - just generally shit after their performance against Spurs where they went 3-0 down. That unified critisism from fellow pro's etc seemed to have made that team play out of their skins against Chelsea in the following game. That team has had investment, and those players need a kick up the arse to get them into shape, they are just doing what Everton did under Silva.

He's not finished at Rangers. I'm sure with Gerrard's determination he'll want to knock Celtic off their perch and he has an opportunity to do so. The PL can wait ... Klopp's not going anywhere for a good few years yet.

On another note ... didn't Gollum say he was waiting for a Top 6 club because he thinks he's proved he's at that level ? 😀 😀 😀

Houllier isn't coming back.

Part of the problem is the delusions of grandeur from the wh fans. Feel sorry for pelegrerni as he wasn’t helped by fabaniski being injured for so long and then having the hapless Roberto as his replacement.

Moyes is strange appointment. They clearly have no faith him in long term if his contract is the reputed 18 month but he is probably desperate to get back in management.

Is Gollum confirmed?
I want to have a good laugh down the pub today - but I'll save it for next match if it's not official yet.

That’s largely his fault, though. Roberto was signed on his watch after after letting go of Adrian. He then persisted with Roberto despite the mounting evidence that he was below the required standard.

I think the real problem is the ownership which doesn’t seem to know in which direction the club ought to be going. Look at the names linked to manage West Ham and they are as diverse and different as its playing staff.

The owners have pumped money in and do give their managers more time than most. It’s just that they do continually make the wrong choices on the field.

Part of the problem is wanting instant success. It’s taken us 4 years to get where we are. Wh fans want European football which is difficult when the big 6 is now 7 with Leicester

I can understand this appointment.

West Ham are preparing for next season in the championship.

Gollum is a puppet, of course he's not going to turn the job down.

David Moyes: New West Ham manager says winning is 'what I do'

David Moyes last managed West Ham in a seven-month spell from November 2017
New West Ham manager David Moyes says winning is "what he does", and added that the club's owners had showed "a lot of class" in bringing him back for a second spell in charge.
Moyes, who replaces the sacked Manuel Pellegrini, left the Hammers at the end of the 2017-18 season.
He recorded nine wins and 10 draws from 31 games in his first spell, leading the club to Premier League safety.
"They are getting a very experienced Premier League manager," said Moyes.
"I think there's only two or three managers with a better Premier League win record. That's what I do, I win.
"I'm here to get West Ham wins and get them away from the bottom three."
Of managers who have taken charge of more than 500 Premier League games, only two - Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger - have a better win record than Moyes.
But he is fifth on the list of Premier League managers who have taken charge of more than 300 games, with Jose Mourinho and Rafael Benitez also having better records.
The Scot has signed an 18-month contract at London Stadium but insists he will give owners David Sullivan and David Gold "no choice" but to extend his deal.
He is still assembling his backroom staff but it will include Alan Irvine, his assistant during his first spell at the east London club.
"It showed quite a lot of class from the owners to ask me back," Moyes said. "David Sullivan and David Gold were excellent. It was very simple. I said 'I can't wait' when I got asked to come back.
"We didn't talk about the future or the past, we spoke about the position the team are in now and it went very well."
He added: "It says an awful lot about the owners that they think the job I did with my backroom staff [was good enough] to give me another chance. This time, I'm going to give them no chance but to extend me.
"There is a clause in my contract to extend the deal. I'm going to make it impossible that that clause can't be activated. It's up to the players to make sure of that now."
West Ham are 17th in the Premier League and Moyes will be in the dugout for their New Year's Day home game against Bournemouth.

Rafa on an 18 month contract with a potential extension depending on where they are in 18 months is a good shout and would suit both parties.
I think the Spaniard had made it clear that he wanted a project, not a short term test anymore.

With the amount of money their owners had spent so far in the last few seasons, I am shocked to not see them able to find a more suitable group of people running the show. Pellegrini was a pretty good manager at Spain, and ruined by City. They can be quite attractive as a club with the location being in London (although not the posh side) and big stadium inherited from the Olympics. Decent amount of fans on international level as well (equivalent to what City used to have or Everton). The prospect is there, the execution seemed to be lacking and it comes down to the head of the company/club.

All these clubs needed to do is to take a step back and reevaluate their long term plan before it is too late. I have seen the likes of QPR splurged so much money trying to push the club too far up too quickly and fall flat on their face. Now that they've gone with Moyes suggest they are only looking to survive.

Its another awful, short term and wrong appointment for West Ham.
At this point I dont think it matters who they bring in, as most of the set up is shite and the owners seem clueless.
After they moved out from the old stadium the club lost its soul and their fans their identity.
It doesnt look like either of them want to be there now.
Just goes to show how wrong it could end up, and I’m even more grateful that we stayed at Anfield.

Moyes might steady the ship a bit, but he wont take them forward and wont be the future.
They need a whole new structure and a clear plan. Build the team around Anderson, Rice, Diop and maybe Haller.
They have some good players, but a loopsided squad and have had a horrendous Sporting Director.
A lot to fix, to say the least.

That press conference was pretty desperate stuff.

"It's what I do - win" and the whole I'll make sure they have to keep me!

It was like those teen movies where the dorky kid is trying to pretend he's cool before realizing he just has to be himself.

I almost felt a little sorry for him... particularly as unlike the aforementioned teen movies, there is unlikely to be a happy ending.

Rafas on £12m a aeason in China apparently, no way hes walking away from that for 12 months as a punching bag at West Ham
