Hi All - I have a 10 hour lay over in Bangkok and so need to pass the time somewhat. Of course I could venture into town and explore Buddha statues and the like (Not mentioning Pat Pong of cause) But the truth is I've been here a few times before and quite frankly in my eyes it's been done. I just want to get home to good old UK. So I'm holed up in a hotel waiting for my time (A few hours now) until my taxi arrives. I have found a spot in the hotel with a power point/WIFI and regular beer delivery. So I'm all set. Ignore if you will but responses would be good.
How about a healthy debate on the season so far, the future and maybe a retrospect on KK and how's he's done?
First up - Transfer Stuff In January - Tragic news about Lucas :-( I was gutted when I read about it this earlier. I know there are threads about this (and probably a lot of others I will touch upon - but please indulge a weary traveller) He's gone from zero to hero in about 18 months in my eyes. Enough has been said about his progress for me to add anything but I'm truly glad and now sad for the lad (poetry not intended). I could put it all down to his haircut change circa 2009 but that would be churlish - After all I'm not 'Brendan' 😉 Still I think most fans of every club not just the mighty reds would agree he is an awesome player and probably one of the very best DM in the PL. A great loss indeed.... - There is talk of a January signing - M'Villa, Tiote, Personally I would go for neither. There sometime seems to be a trend of following the latest zeitgeist in terms of transfer speculation. Some have been acted upon this and it's worked, other have not (Yes Arshavin I'm looking at you) In My opinion let's go with Shelvey and Spearing. They may not be names that spring from the transfer speculation zeitgeist but fuck! It's obviously a tightrope whatever you look at it. Both are proven to some degree and could be considered a gamble but what the hey. Give them a chance I say. There is alway Hendo and not forgetting our team captain to come into the frame.
How about our season so far? A 'B+' would be a fair assesement. Room to improve and become great but there is still big question marks. Let's look into them a little.
This seasons form - A sticky subject for most regular Anfield goers this season I know. I am not one of them. I'm a London based red as Spion and Peterhauge (Both gents BTW) will attest - I'm just looking at the results and what I have watched on the telly. I don't attest to be a tactical footy pundit but even I can see the wheat from the grass. Norwich, Swansea, and yes Sunderland. All matches we would all like to see win. Coupled with - Man Utd, Man City etc (Both pretty good results in my opinion) - I know it's poor given them stats but that has been the trend of the last few years. What has also been a trend is how Liverpool tend to finish the season waaaay better than we start. What are we now 11 games unbeaten? That is huge progress what ever way you look at it.
Lastly - lets quickly look at KK - I read some reports about that tart Savage saying that KK was not a world class manager. Those were the headlines BTW and not what he said fully. To some extent I agree with him. Or at least the full article. Sure he's not up there with Cruyff, Beckanbauer, or Guardialoa. He has never, as a manager been proven on the European stage (We all know why this was not the case sadly) But I would not have anyone else in charge of our beloved football club than the King. I'm not stating this as a matter of opinion to be debated because I know (Or or at least I hope I do) we all feel the same. Just look at the his picture with Bellamy the other day. Or his utter distain for the gutter press (Including Sky) It's his obvious passion for the club. I watched (along with Spoin and PeterHague) How he applauded the away fans at West Brom every time we sung his name. Every single time....
A quick round up of other random points - Carroll - I really like him. He seems massively low of confidence though. I haven't seen the latest Chelsea match but reports that I have read on here seem to suggest he played well (Apart from the pen miss of course) I am just desperate for the lad to do well. Although I always feel like that with new signings. Clough, Colloymore, Smicer and Kewell I had the same unfounded affection for. Some proved me right (Beautifully in Smicers case) Other sadly not.... Let's hope for the former.
Adam - I am very happy we have signed him. Not least because he seems to be doing a great job at filling in for Stevie G and now probably Lucas - I feel he could be LFC most important s ummer signing.
Carra - His time is far from up as some on here have said. Sure - Agger (When fit) And Skrtel - seem the obvious choice right now and that is the right decision in my opinion. If I was a betting man I would say that Kelly (Or possibly Coates - although Ive not seen much of him)would end up as CB at some point in the next year or two anyway. Still he will always remain at Anfield I think and provide support, Cover and leadership in whatever capacity offers itself to him.
Kuyt - He annoys me and elates me in equal fashion. I hate the way he loses the ball a lot but obviously I love I his workrate. This has been said many times and there is a part of me that wants to get rid and go for a different option (I'd be much happier with a right wing signing that a DM) Still he is the man who always pops up just when you least expect him to.
Bellamy - Is the new Gary Mac in my opinion and should be used as such. They were similar ages when they arrived I think. He plays in a different position so I'm not sure how that will work. I do love him though.
Thanks for reading. That post took 90mins of my time along with some good Pad See Eew as well. Be great to see some responses if anyone feels inclined 😉 5 hours till take off!
