Now that Jota is back...

Who's your pick?

as you were with diaz and gakkers pushing each other for the start.

diaz for spurs imo, my preference is typically for him anyway because he’s usually a threat that carrys the ball with ease, can beat a man or two and pushes the opposition back.

Gakpo for me. Diaz started very well, but it feels like he’s reverting back to form. Which isn’t terrible, but doesn’t make him a guaranteed starter.

I feel like Gakpo does two useful things: crosses for the striker (Jota), and ghosting into the back post

Diaz does a lot of stretching the play, but i feel its most useful where we expect to have a lot of counter attacking space, which is less than half of our games (mostly the top teams, plus a Brighton, Bournemouth etc)

Maybe we could play Darwin at LB, where he can run about a lot without having to hit the target with efforts on goal or stay onside.

Don’t see why anything should change. Seems straight forward to carry on chopping and changing how Arne sees fit to get the best out of both.

Based on form Gakpo, but for this game it feels like Diaz should start and that Cody will have a bigger impact of the bench.

Seeing as Slot is blessed with two extremely good players his decision will depends on the profile of the opposition right-back their overall tactics as well as the individual fitness or either player. All else being equal, I’d argue that Gakpo is in better form. He also has stronger chemistry with Salah and is more effective at getting on the end of his crosses, which can be crucial. He's also just better at getting the ball into the box.

That said, it’s worth noting that Diaz has been shifted into central areas, much like Gakpo was last year. Therefore, it would be unfair to judge him too harshly as a striker, given that he’s only filling in because Nunez has been underwhelming. It's probably time to drop that experiment now. It looked to work well initially but more recently I've felt Diaz has been badly isolated in the centre and he hasn't taken the chances that have come his way.

I'm confident Slot will do that. He seems very keen on players having their set position and will only utilise any adaptability when he has to.

"Now that Jota is back"... that's cute. I'd rotate him / use him as a sub so perhaps we can extend his usefulness.

That first one (Dec 7 2020) was the midgetland dead rubber - everyone on here went mental at him being played in that match, but little did they know then that whether or not he played was immaterial, the injury was coming whether in a dead rubber match or the next time he stepped in the shower.

I'd stick with Gakpo for PL games at the mo, but the combo of him & Diaz is working well. Presume for Spurs we'll stick with Nunez down the middle and it could be Jan before Diogo starts a game.
