No Player is Bigger than the Club

I think no statement will be more important to our return than this one by Kenny. It reminds us of who we are, after a 18 month long crisis of confidence, and it puts superstar players and their agendas in their place.

So how does a player happen to think they are bigger? The club goes through a crisis financially, underperforms on the field due to palace intrigue, and perhaps under-investment in the club and it's playing staff. Then suddenly, no longer does the club, and it's fans and management feel that certain players are part of their club. A gap emerges, where the club feels less than...the player

A feeling creeps in that, gosh aren't we lucky to have Fernando, or Pepe, or Steven, and the player picks up on this, and suddenly asks - well, maybe I CAN do better. The club and fans tip toe around the genius, until generally it ends with the superstar departing for what they think is a bigger club. In truth they are leaving for a more confident club..

And this is what has happened with Pepe now, but I feel the genie can be put back in the bottle. If it isn't well fuck it. We aren't going to go creeping around, bowl begging good players to play for us. Kenny has given us this belief again..

And if they want to go to MAN U, good for them, but they aren't going... We ain't stupid

Today was the first day I genuinely felt glad Fernando was gone. Seriously, fuck him. We didn't have to be so afraid, so concerned. Suarez works hard, plays well, links up excellently, and yes he's not Torres, but he's much better than the sulky Torres who shows up most of the time. And the team benefits from it being about them again, not one genius.

I feel glad he's gone, because who was he to think he could do better? Who was he to think he was bigger than the club. No-one is. We've had a rough patch, but we're coming back. We've got the manager, we've got the funds - and if as a player, you don't realize the past 18 months was just because of the first two gob-shite owners, well there's the door, and maybe even, there's the reserves.

ON a side note, I watched the match on a plane today going coast to coast on Live Satellite. I let out quite a few screams. The airline staff didn't know what to make of it all!
