Wenger also commented on his left-back situation, following the sale of Gael Clichy to Manchester City, revealing he is ready to put his faith in youngster Kieran Gibbs. "The plan for left-back is that we have Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore, and Thomas Vermaelen can play there too. So we have what we need."

I like Gibbs he's a very fine player. He has a lot of injuries though. I cant see him making it a season without a layoff.

Think gibbs is good, but I think a season of being first choice might make him have a case of the insuas before seasons end

True. If they weren't the entire squad wouldn't turn up to training.

I'm reserving judgment on Gibbs. So far he looks like another Clichy to me, impressive going forward but no great shakes when having to defend.

That's pretty much the whole arsenal team.

Indeed - one of Wenger's rare successes in the market for defenders. If they end up having to play him at LB they'll reduce his value to them quite significantly though.
Thats a bit harsh isnt it? Cole, Gallas, Vermaelen, Sagna, Sylvinho, Lauren, Van Bronckhorst, Toure.....Im sure there are more.

Yes, perhaps a bit, but none of those has really shone, which is what they've needed these last few years especially. Even Cole had to move before his all-round game reached its current heights.

Toure had a period of about 3 seasons where he was immense, JJ..

It's not his fault the other 10 werent up to scratch during those years.
Yeah i think he has certainly failed in the last few years.
I think in Vermaelen and Djourou and Sagna they have a good base. I do like Gibbs, but a whole season is a stretch and the biggest problem is that under that four there is nothing, Koscielny, Squillaci, Eboue etc are fucking wank.
We have the opposite problem, we have loads of OK defenders but Carragher aside we dont have one amazing defender.
Id rather have ours than theirs though to be honest. Kelly looks the Bis.

There isn't a great left back available for a reasonable price at the mo. Wenger would be better off sticking with what he's got and strengthen other areas. Id rather have traore and gibbs as options over insua

If Traore and Gibbs are like Clichey than I suppose one thing you can say is that they're not weakened in any way plus they have gained 7M, which can be put to use elsewhere.

Wenger has got a good squad but the spine of his team is too weak. He needs a new CB to play alongside Vermaelen, a presence in midfield to play alongside Wilshere / Fabregas and a proper no.9 who he can rely on (particularly as Van Persie spends half a season injured).

They'd have won a couple titles I think had he have sorted this a few years back. Silly, silly.
