Nice little Werner

He looks like he was made for a Klopp team. Question is, if he's going to cost as much as Dmishra suspects, is he worth it? There's no doubt he's a class act.
Frankly, I think this is a non-starter for several reason.

1. He'll easily cost 100 million or more. We're in a market where Mbappe and Dembele went for 100+ million, and Werner has statistically performed better than both. When Dortmund are quoting 88 million for Pulisic, I have little doubt that Leipzig will accept anything less than a triple figure sum.

2. He'd probably attract interest from the likes of Real, PSG (if Neymar leaves) etc. if he ever became available. He's absolutely amongst the top 5 young strikers in Europe atm, so it'd be pretty unlikely we'd get him.

3. Even though his style his tailor made for us, there could be an issue with positional fit. Werner did start his career as a LW, but he plays centrally now. Klopp isn't going to move Firmino from the central position, so where does Werner fit in a three-man attack? On the left, in place of Mane? Theoretically, I think that could work in a Neymar-Suarez-Messi type of thing. But Werner might prefer playing centrally; so that would be a challenge.

I think the best way to round off our attacking depth is to:

(a) find a dependable back-up for Firmino in the central spot. Present options appear to be Solanke, Ings and Origi - not particularly happy with any of them to be honest. Ings in theory would have been great, but he looks rusty and short of confidentmce. There's little saying he'll ever be the player he was before injury. Solanke looks super raw, and not a goal threat at all. Origi might be the best goal threat of the three, but his development has stalled for about 18 months now, and he could well be about to disappear into lower mid-table obscurity soon. Perhaps we should try and flog all three, and get someone like Dolberg?

(b) add a shit-hot young WF, who's comfortable playing both wings. This guy can be back-up for both Mane and Salah, provide flair and energy from the bench, and even start if he's good enough. City got the perfect guy in Sane. We need to find someone similar. Pulisic may well be that guy. There are quite a few other options as well - Leon Bailey, Goncalo Guedes, David Neres, Ismaila Sarr. Scouts should know who's the best available candidate.

CLOSE THE THREAD....

Robbie Keane had Wolves, Liverpool, Spurs, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, Celtic, West Ham, ATK, LA Galaxy and Aston Villa as his boyhood club.

He was a bizzy cunt alright

Werner just scored his 11th goal of this Bundesliga campaign, his stats have tailed off compared to last season (21 league goals). I think you're overestimating his reputation somewhat – he is not quite in the PSG/Real league yet. His contract with Leipzig expires in 2020 and so far he's resisted signing an extension, which weakens Leipzig's leverage considerably. I'm a bit concerned by his stated preference for Man United over Liverpool, but if we're willing to overlook that, he seems like an ideal candidate to be Firmino's deputy, able to play in any position across the front 3.

18 goals in all competition.

He's a right little shit though:
"If you take Germany, it would be a lie to say that you would not like to play for Bayern.
"It would be a lie to say in England you'd not like to play for Manchester United or Manchester City.
"Spain - Barca or Real. There are great clubs in every league. Italy or France would not be my leagues, but the other three.
"There are so many clubs you'd like to play for. I don't want to tie myself down. I'll see what happens."

Im not a massive fan. Doesn't have a lot of pace and if you've not got a lot of pace you need to be seriously hot stuff to make up for it. He looks decent, but nowhere near worth the fees ,mentioned.

I've only seen bits and pieces but he's fucking fast. You must be thinking about someone else.

If you are actually still talking about Timo Werner, that is.

scored the winner against Bayern yesterday, assisted by Keita (who also scored the first goal)

I stand corrected I was looking at the wrong player haha!!. But how could he play on those loud European nights? He has that noise problem.

No interest in Werner as per Pearce today. We won't be signing a striker at all this summer.

It feels perhaps less urgent than it did last summer, and the signing of Salah has obviously delivered that 20-plus goalscorer that we so clearly needed, but I'd still say that with Sturridge gone, Ings being Ings, and Solanke being shite, that we most certainly do need to reinforce that attacking triumvirate; because while Mane, Firmino and Salah are a very strong attack, we rely on them entirely, and have nobody else anywhere near the same quality or reliability.

I suppose the problem is that no world class quality forward is going to come here to sit on the bench waiting for Firmino, Salah or Mane to get injured. So we either rely on young potential as back up, or get a midfielder who can fill in as a forward e.g. Lemar.

The echo have habit of downplaying every transfer story within 24 hours. A little understandable from the clubs point of view after the vvd debacle. Not for the journalists who are the effectively the clubs mouth piece now.
