Next season, it's all aligning isn't it? We've signed VVD and it looks like we're getting Keita this window too, they should both be fully settled in for next season. We've sold Coutinho yes, but unless you're a cynic, we have £140million waiting to be spent in the summer, to spend on the areas we really need to spend it.

For me, as a 30 year old, this is the coming close to the strongest Liverpool team I've ever seen, that trophy still belongs to 2009, by quite a margin, but with VVD and Keita coming in, and if we get the goalkeeper we all know we need, and a couple of other top quality players (Goretzka, Lemar, Allison, Akanji), it could surpass it in the summer.

Maybe i've got the red tinted glasses this morning, but if we make the champions league and invest well this summer, I really feel like next season could be the first of my life where I expect us to challenge for the title, not just be a maybe, it just feels to me that we are very close to see the team Klopp wants to create at Liverpool, a couple of key areas really let us down, sort that out, and we're laughing.

But we've all be here before though, haven't we?

We have been here before BUT not with such a clear overall direction for the club, the team and the transfer policy, not any time recently anyway. There's work still to do of course but I think you're right to be optimistic. I certainly am.
Agreed, I know we've had stronger squads in the past, but something about the club just feels right at the moment, I feel it's all going to click into place very soon, and then the trophies will follow.

City will dominate the premiership for the foreseeable future

What you saw Guardiola do with Barcelona you will see him do with City

They are unbelievably strong.. and have many young players not even any where near their peak

I believe we will improve next season, but we ain't winning the title anytime soon.. City are in a different league

We are still a few players away to claim it's the strongest side in 20 years.

Still in think the Suarez, Gerrard, Sturridge and Sterling lead 13/14 team would beat this one.

But it's certainly looking good. Losing Countinho was a big step back but if we can get a new GK, a new AM, a new DM, a new CB and either Robertson continues to improve or a new LB then we will be in with s chance.

That's still 4 players down the spine and maybe a 5th.

You mean dominate for 3 years (he's been there for 2) and fuck off to another 'challenge' (i.e. a club that's near the top of some league with shitloads of money)?

We are going to lose Salah Mane and Keita for 4 weeks in Jan next season. Thats going to put a hole in any title challenge

Yeah @redsar we resolved that quandary during the Salah thread in the Summer. No doubt it helped us make our mind up on Salah and Keita.

Yeah they are strong and they may win the title next season - but this is not Spain, and Germany - here there are no actual easy games and players can never be off their game. Those players are under tremendous pressure to perform week in week out or its over for them. We thought the same when Chelsea came in with their petro-dollars but United still won a few titles, and then you had Leicester come into the act. It looks bad right now because they have managed to be consistent - but it can only take a few knocks and their entire season can be undone. Guardiola has more games to contend with in this country domestically than what he probably had in Spain/Germany.

Can I also just add that if we end up at any stage facing them in the CL - well his team will be fucked the moment they step into Anfield - just like they will be later today.
