Next season - Hendo, Thiago and Fabs

So buying a RB and moving Trent to midfield is completely out of the question?

can Spanish Steve play in defense? We know Fabs can.
Selling Matip and Thiago brings in £10-20m and saves £15-17m in basic wages forget bonuses

Took me a while to figure out who Spanish Steve was but, why mess with his development. Let him figure out the DM position. He's still just a kid.
Oh and I just realised didn't we buy some Scottish kid to play at RB?

Ramsey, I think he is a Melo/Naby type player who will see more of the medical treatment room than the pitch. As to Spanish Steve, well if the MF is packed, then why not try him in other positions? He could be a ball-carrying CB or an Inverted CB

I guess he can be in the CB rotation since he's originally a CB, but what would he do against a striker like Kane? Remember Carra vs Drogba?

It leaves them where there where last season - part of a squad of players, along with Jones, Elliot & BadgerTits where form and fitness will dictate who plays and how often.

We’ll just have a better squad and each player, including the new players will have to perform consistently and better.

If we replace Milner, Kieta & Ox with Mac Allistar, Kone & Thuram that’s a great upgrade - but it’s up to the new players to justify their place.

Lets’s see who gets through Pre-season training alive first.
This is not the thread for sense, it's where you assume that Klopp will play only 3 midfielders for all the season and out current crop are all surplus to requirements.

Each one of these 3 will be much improved when surrounded by 2 other midfielders with legs. It’s still not a great thing to be carrying someone in terms of workload but if they give something to the side which justifies it then it’s fine.

To that end Thiago has the most to give but with Trents new role will we need him? Fabinho looks like he’s too easily bypassed and might be best suited to big European nights where it’s slower and the experience counts. Hendo doesn’t have enough to his game beyond the energy but if he can summon that energy maybe every other game that would be a big contribution.

Klopps going to have to weigh all this up but my guess is he keeps everyone given That we’ve lost 3 mids this summer.
Actually four (and that's assuming that Jones, Elliott and Bajcetic all stay or it could be more) - I know Melo didn't play a minute in the PL but he would have if fit. So we'll need all three of them even if just for the numbers.

Melo should be absolutely flattered by your post

[article]As Liverpool’s form improved late on in the campaign, Jones finally put a run of games together that suggested he could have a big part to play next year if he can stay fit. If you discount Fábio Carvalho, who often played in a forward role, Jones was the only midfielder to score more than once in the league, with his three goals coming in wins over Tottenham and Leicester (two). Interestingly, his output profiles similarly to Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, so much so that – according to Opta’s new player radars – the closest three profiles to Jones from recent seasons are all Silva.[/article]

I think our transfer business is done... unless we get sales we can't afford another player. Hendo will stay and I am going to say it now (he wants to be in the Euros 2024), and I am putting my neck on the line... He will be better than CJ

There's 7 weeks of the window remaining.....I think it's pretty clear cut we're after a defender. Think we could even sign 1 to push for a start and 1 youngster to develop (go straight out on loan).

Hincapie + Debast to finish the window would be ace.

He is not going to be better than CJ - you know that. His natural abilities are not even close to CJ's ability with the ball.
But I don't want him to leave right now - I think his leadership qualities are a MUST for the new midfield we will build, especially with Milner now gone, there are no other players other than Robbo who has something about them to remind the other players when they are playing shit. For those that think VVD can be that leader - take a hard look, I think he is a shit leader. But I do agree, he (Henderson) will perform much better next season and the Euro 2024 qualifiers is a good motivating factor, plus if the new players stay fit - he will not be used as much and run into the ground like he has been in past few seasons.

All these people writing Fabinho off, it's ridiculous, he had a bad patch of the season just like so many did, basically our whole system fell apart and that left him especially vulnerable. Once we reorganised and started performing well again, he was back to type and performed well for us. He'll be an important player for the season ahead, the idea of moving him on is stupid.

He was one of our worst performances last season by some distance (along with Trent & Hendo until around March time when we shook things up a bit) I hope you're right and it's just a one off but how can the idea of him moving on be stupid when so many have moved on in their peak of their career & we've come out from it better off?

I mean calling it reorganised is underselling it. We literally had to put another body next to him to control the space because he was too slow to influence the game, make challenges and compete. Part of that was press was broken in front of him, but the individual decline of Fabinho was there for all to see.

Igor Biscan wound look half decent with Trent running the show next to him.

You've got to look back a few months and say he was excellent last season. Did something happen in the Summer to age him 3-5 years (he's always been the slowest in the squad)? Or was his form a result of something else (as per most of the team - emotionally shattered)?

I hope Thiago goes but Hendo and Fabinho have still got something to offer. Fabinho can't possibly be as bad again as he was in spells last season. And Hendo will be back raring after a rest and a pre-season.

Inclined to agree, at least Hendo and Fab have both proven to be reliably available.

Thiago's had 3 seasons now and if his name wasn't Thiago, he'd have been long gone by now.

Yeah - I think Fabs will be fine this season - Klopp tried to to change too much last season with too little time to do it and too many injury prone players.

Mane leaving (our press trigger man), playing with a 9 rather than a false 9, Salah not getting as involved in dangerous areas, Trent’s positioning all over the place, the gap between our CB’s way too large, etc, etc

Fabinho will be a load better with legs beside him next season no doubt but his replacement should be high on the list

Fabinho can't possibly be as bad again as he was in spells last season.

…of course he can, especially given the amount of miles in his legs and after a season during which he did a passing impression of a player in marked decline. Truth is, we don’t know whether he’ll recover his previous level or not, but to bury heads in the sand out of blind optimism is crazy for a team aiming to resume challenging for top honours against mega-financed deep squads.

If we don’t ensure we have a bona fide reliable alternative to Fabinho, it’d beggar belief to me.

Fabinho is done.

Its hard to make a judgement call on this, when he was just about OK , it was at the time when Trent, and Curtis were around him , so it could be a case he just needs a couple of fit runners around him. We'll know pretty soon on this.

Basically, Fabinho is good when he has players next to him who do all the running and blocking of passing lanes

Is that what we're establishing here?
