TAA has done it. Gomez is seen as an eventual partner to VVD. So who do you think will have a break-out season next year? What do you think the chances of Ryan Kent or Ben Woodburn?

It's tough to call.

Woodburn you'd think, but he's in a very competitive position. Wilson and Kent are possible, but for competition, I think it could be Brewster

It's firmino, then ings and solanke. Those last 2 (unless form completely overhauls) shouldn't be too much for Brewster to overcome

Woodburn not particularly impressing for the under 23's tonight against Man U

I think Woodburn is crying out for a loan move. I'd be sending him to the likes of Brighton or Bournemouth.
Judging by tonight performance he doesn't look ready for Premiership football.
He seems to be trying to do too much.
A spell with a decent Championship side might be enough to allow him to kick on

I have to admit the lack of time Klopp has given to the likes of Solanke, Woodburn, Grujic and Brewster is a bit disappointing. I really thought we might have seen one of them have a break through season

Fuck playing them if they aren’t banging the door down.
To be fair, solankes on to a loser being behind firmino, as is woodburn (no set position, behind wingers and/or attacking CMS)

Grujic I expected a lot more from though

I still believe solanke is being moulded to firmino lite.

I'd be surprised if we saw him again this season tbh

I dont see the similarities, he doesnt have the touch, intelligence or link up play of Firmino. He seems more a standard quick striker who can play off the shoulder and run the channels.

I disagree

He's a very intelligent player and (goals aside) chance creation and dribbles stats are very good per minute.

Intensive training from klopp to try and mould him and change his movement slightly.

And the fact he's log.

I don’t think he’s all that quick. Is he even quicker than Firmino?

Wilson already smashing it for Hull. I would have liked to see some others go out on loan. I wonder whether a season long loan as a CB is the best next step for Gomez. He fits in the squad but needs to learn CB, and I don't think we can risk that learning phase unless we decide we've achieved Top 4 and start doing so now.

Really? I didn't.

There's nobody there who is so good that they're going to smash their way into the first-team and stay there, like Owen or Gerrard. And at a team like Liverpool, with so much pressure to win games and also a quality first team squad for that player to break into, it isn't easy.

The fact that TAA and Gomez have played so many games is impressive, although arguably that only happened because of Clyne's injury.

Wilson and Kent are doing well on loan. I like them a lot but it's huge competition for them here in those wide positions. I'm not in any doubt that both could make an impact next season as impact subs - you'd be bringing on more, fresh, pace, and plenty of trickery against tiring defenders. But getting a run in the team? I fear not.

Woodburn is loved by the coaching staff. It's just a case of finding a role for him to develop - with defenders, as we've seen, you can play them somewhere, and even a future central midfielder like TAA you can play at RB or LB, but for attacking midfielders and forwards you've not got that option.

Until his two operations I'd have said Brewster was the one. If he comes back really fit and well I honestly believe he'll make that impact next season, he's that good as a forward.

I think he's been just about right with Solanke. He's nowhere near the finished article, but if he got a goal he'd probably push on, but I think he's been handled fairly sensibly. Woodburn would've had more games if only we'd stayed in a cup or two. He probably does have cause to be frustrated, but again it's not a luxury position he'd be coming on to fill, it's a crucial one and he'd get far more flak than TAA got at the weekend if he loused up. Grujic really needed to go out on loan - he's a really interesting talent but until he learns some discipline he's a liability. I didn't feel going to Warnock was the right solution to that, but I'll be delighted to be proven wrong. Maybe he needs an old school manager to hurl tea cups at him and tell him how it is. I've watched him for Cardiff and within the space of a few minutes you think, '...wow, that's great...what the HELL is he doing???'

I don't know wether he has had much to do with it but Cardiff have closed down a serious gap to Wolves since he signed.

I've not seen anything to make me think that he's going to ever be a first choice CB for us, just him saying that it's his favourite position. He's not terrible or anything, I just don't think he looks all that great at the moment.
Solanke and Woodburn aren't getting any love, and considering we've been smashing some teams quite early in games recently, I think they could have been getting more love. I presume Klopp is seeing something in training that we aren't.

I know Gomez has been pegged as a future CB but I quite like him as a RB. He’s looked composed on the ball this season and has burst forward impressively on occasion. It helps that he is just as quick and physical as most wide attackers, if not more. Some of his crossing, with both feet, have also been very good, although TAA has been far better in that department. I don’t think he lags behind TAA much when it comes to helping out the attack at all.

Perhaps he’s had a few issues with judging the flight of the ball this season but time will tell if experience will iron that out.

I’d be pleased if he made the RB position his own for years to come, seeing as TAA will probably move into midfield at some stage.

I was trying to find highlights of Cardiff games, but so far the most comprehensive ones I found were 2-3 minute Youtube clips from the official channel. So I have some questions for you, if you don't mind:
  1. Does Grujic play DM? Alone or with a equally deep-lying partner?
  2. How comfortable is he looking in that position? In Liverpool (and in Serbia) he usually played further forward; based on what you've seen so far where do you think is his future position?
  3. How is his defensive work? I read that in the last game (Birmingham, I think) he made something like 5 tackles and 6 interceptions, does he seem to enjoy that aspect of the game more than before?

There was some debate in the press box over whether it was Marko Grujic or Callum Paterson penalised for Birmingham's softest of soft penalties.

But that matters not, and reflects more on Peter Bankes' slightly bizarre decision than the performances of Cardiff's two totemic midfielders, both of whom can make a case that this was their best display in a blue shirt. If anyone was guilty of a shove in the box as Jota lined up a corner, we may never know.

Grujic, in particular, was singled out for praise by Warnock and at times looked every inch the Premier League player he's been billed as.
"I thought that was Grujic's best game since coming here," said Warnock afterwards.
"I thought he dominated in there. I thought he did ever so well."

Especially late in the game, with the score 3-1, the Serbian was keeping possession with consummate ease, flicking the ball around Birmingham players at will.

It's important to remember that he's only 21 years old and is being asked to play a position - in a promotion-pushing Championship midfield - that he's not used to. Defensive midfield has been a problem area since Aron Gunnarsson's injury and Grujic's arrival has coincided with an upturn in the Bluebirds' form. For a naturally attacking midfield player, that's some feat.

Even Joe Ralls, Mr Reliable himself, has not been missed in the past two games, such has been the solidity brought by Grujic.

Paterson, meanwhile, celebrated his seventh Bluebirds strike and just goes on and on.

His incredible knack of scoring when it really matters is no fluke. It stems from his desire to push forward from midfield, his buccaneering pressing style and his aerial prowess, which cannot be understated.

Central midfield has long been an area of concern for Cardiff fans. No longer.

I've got high hopes for Woodburn and Grujic. I think both will go on to have decent top flight careers but it's impossible to say whether it will be with us. There's just tooany variables and neither are superstar quality that you are forced to make exceptions for.
