Although I'm not keen on goalies as captains, many have actualy lifted trophies...Zoff, Buffon, Khan, Schmeichel, Casillas...

Beasant......

I don't think we've ever had a keeper as captain. Certainly not as official captain anyway
I'd tried to forget about Beasant...

I can understand that

If he doesn't fuck off to barca in a few years it has to be Suarez. His sheer determination to win would be enough to garauntee it.

Probably best to wait until Suarez has been here for at least a year before making plans for him being a long term captain.

He's been great so far but he really hasn't been here very long.

It'll rotate between Gerrard, Carra, Dirk and Reina for the next 3/4 years most likely.

I reckon Lucas will be our next captain and will go on to make about 700 appearances for us. And when he retires we'll be able to say 'remember that belter versus Havant and Waterlooville? Marvellous'.

Looks like the popular choices are Suarez, Reina and Kuyt for good reason. All good choices though I don't know if Suarez will stay long enough. I like Reina a lot but I think he's probably best as the dressing room captain keeping spirits up. Same goes for Kuyt - these too guys are probably just too nice.

On the pitch, I'm looking for someone who has a good view of the proceedings, to bark instructions from the back and to give bollockings to the slackers.

If his body could just hold up, I think Agger would be a solid captain. Unfortunately, the Dane seems allergic to grass.

Hay fever? Shit, all this time I've thought that he was a complete fucking crock.

feel bad for pepe, as he's being discounted. Yes goalies aren't stereotypically great orators or captains, but by fuck, you only need to look at how he commands everyone and bollocks people. When someone should have been sent off against us last season (the ref booked the wrong player), pepe ran the entire length of the pitch to remonstrate. That is passion and love for the win. He would take no shit and get the team pumped. He can dish out praise and can be a friend to everyone.

Yes keepers don't make great captains generally, but not all keepers are like pepe reina
Totally agree. He's the obvious choice for me.

Also, making him Captain might help keep him here...

The only other choice is really Suarez, although I think he's too much of a live wire to be a captain, although he was at Ajax.

I completely forgot Kuyt, he'd been my second choice, as long as he keeps his spot.

Adam produced plenty of "captains performances" whilst leading Blackpool over the past two seasons.

It has to be Pepe. If Stevie would agree, i would pass the honors right away.

He should be officially appointed VC at the very least.

How would pepe motivate us to get goals? It just wouldnt work
Pepe would make his feelings heard wherever he was on the pitch. He's the most senior player with plenty of years ahead of him and he's a born leader. As much as I love him, I really not sure that Suarez with his flappy arms and potentially volatile character would be the best choice. Besides, the team should be motivated before they go on the field. It's pretty clear that Kenny has been buying players who are known for their tenacity and hard work. Motivation beyond that will come from winning.
