He did seem to score a lot in his wikipedia page. All I knew of him before he joined liverpool was that I managed to sign him on fm for fleetwood town. Says it all really.

I don't see the Sheringham comparison. Wasn't he the fella with longish hair who never stops running about. Spent alot of time drifting to the left flank?

"The Sheringham Comparison" is 99 times out of 100 used when the player being described is slow, doesn't score that prolifically, and hangs about 15 yards over the halfway line with his back to goal

So what robot does Lucas play like?

Let's assume Gerrard is the fucking Terminator (yes, yes he's a cyborg pedant-geeks)

Lucas is Marvin? R2-D2?

He played up the middle in the first game and was very effective but then unfortunately Paraguay decided to shoe-horn Santa Cruz into the team and Valdez got shunted out left. They dropped him for the Japan game because it was obvious the 3 up top wasn't working too well but then dropped Santa Cruz against Spain and put Valdez back up top.

The likeness to Sheringham is not totally accurate but I'm struggling to think of someone more appropriate - I could say Paul Hayes but you're the only one who'll get that reference.

That holding player thread was a belter.

Yes, that's what I remember too. He had firm ideas about the required physique for a holding player, and hilarity ensued.

Fair enough. Every glimpse i saw of Valdez he seemed to be charging about flat out chasing any lost cause and making a nuisance of himself. Bit of a shit version of a Tevez type?

Yup, I'll give you that, Tevez is a more apt description but I wouldn't describe him as a "shit version", I reckon he's not quite as aggressive as Tevez but he offered himself as an outlet (hence the confusing* Sheringham comparison) better than Tevez does.

* And yes, by "confusing" I mean "wrong".

I don't know, he must be a good player then. I think Tevez is fantastic at showing for the ball. He killed us at Anfield this season when he came on dropping deep and making things happen.

I love the fact that Lucas was shit, slow, rarely attacked and wasn't the 'box-to-box' attacking dynamo that he was at Gremio (how do we know this? Did anyone watch him play?) Because of 'Rafa's instructions'

It's laughable.

He's mediocre at best, and that isn't anything to do with who manages and coaches the useless bellend
There is actually quite a lot of Youtube stuff on Lucas at Gremio - even though it's just Youtube it's obvious to see he played in a completely different style to that to which we've been subjected. Even though it's oft derided, he didn't win the Brazilian Player of the Season award for nothing, he must have done SOMETHING right.

Still, I want him gone.

Liverpool are being linked with a move for Standard Liege captain Steven Defour, according to several reports in the Belgian press.

The versatile midfielder is thought to be on the verge of leaving the Belgian outfit, despite recently extending his contract with the club.

Defour, who was out injured for much of last season but is still highly-rated in European football circles, is expected to command a fee of around £10 million (€12m).

Sulley Muntari will be offered to Liverpool Football Club this summer, as Internazionale intensify their pursuit of Javier Mascherano.

Former Reds coach Rafael Benitez is determined to take Argentine international Mascherano to Internazionale this summer, and is expected to make his move any day now.

According to The Mirror, the Italian giants are willing to offer Muntari as part of the deal to take the former West Ham United ace, who has an uncertain future at Anfield.

Mascherano is believed to be in two minds whether to accept a new contract on Merseyside, and has not been shy to state his admiration for Benitez since the Spaniard’s departure.

Roy Hodgson would be reluctant to lose the South American, but Ghanaian international Muntari, formerly of Portsmouth, would at least soften the blow if he were to leave.

Liverpool are odds-on favourites to sign Joe Cole this summer as punters continue to bet on the England international's next club.

Last week saw Cole go out to 9/4 to join Liverpool but the former Chelsea midfielder as of Monday lunchtime was back in to 8/13 with Sky Bet to move to Anfield this summer.

Cole is 6/4 (from 5/6 last week) to join Arsenal on a free transfer after support for a move to north London faded over the weekend.

Cole, who failed to hold down a starting place in the Chelsea team in the 2009/10 season after returning from a serious knee injury, is 7/4 (from 9/4) to join up with his former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham, while a move to Manchester United remains a 20/1 chance.

Apparently Palermo's manager has confirmed that they've made an offer for Lucas but that it's considerably less than 5 M GBP.

From soccernet.com

Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed the club have made an offer for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

Lucas Leiva has been linked with a move away from Liverpool

Roy Hodgson is currently assessing the squad ahead of the new season and reports suggest Lucas, 23, has been made available to raise funds. Sabatini has now confirmed the rumours but indicated the bid is far lower than has been suggested.

"We have made an initial offer to the English club," he told Tgs Sport. "However, I can deny claims that we have offered £5 million as reported by some media. We have offered much less than that."

Brazil international Lucas joined Liverpool from Gremio in 2007.

i HATE Lucas and Insua but i wouldnt sell lucas for anything under 8mil as he is 23, former brazil player of the year and has premierleague experience. Palermo can go do 1 if they arent offering anything near the 8mil we want.
as for Insua 5mil with ad-ons would be good. he is young and still has potential to be ok. Just because we have no money, i dont want other clubs taking the piss
Define "anywhere near". IMO anything in excess of £5 mill.should be seriously considered, even if it's only a percentage of what we originally asked for. Otherwise we run the very real risk of ending up with 100% of bugger all, as there's an equally real doubt about whether he's good enough for us even as a squaddie.
So you think selling LUCAS for 5mil is really good business? i think maybe your rick parry undercover. 5mil for a 23 year old with premierleague experience, who was a star in the brazil league and won the same award as ronaldinho and robinho and tevez etc. Who we signed for 6mil, but yet you think making a 1mil loss on him is a great deal. your deluded

Lecce have made a £1million bid for Liverpool youngster Krisztian Nemeth.

The 21-year-old came to England from MTK Hungaria amid much fanfare three years ago, with the Reds' official website still describing him as 'one of the most exciting prospects on Liverpool's books'.

However, Nemeth has failed to break through to the first time despite impressing for the reserves and he spent last season on loan at AEK Athens - scoring three goals in 18 appearances.

Lecce hope to sign him as part of plans to build a squad capable of staying in Serie A.
Nemeth has impressed as a youth international and helped Hungary to third place at the Under 20 World Cup last year. In May he won his first full international cap during a 3-0 defeat by Germany.

Meanwhile, Flamengo have joined the race to sign Liverpool reserve keeper Diego Cavalieri.

The Rio de Janeiro side are in a stronger position to meet the Brazilians wage demands than rivals Santos and Corinthians, but none of the suitors want to pay a fee for a player who still has two years to run on his Anfield contract.

Lucas is going to come good this year Rafa suppressed him. I dont mind if he stays Roy will bring him round. Give him a chance. Attacking.

At least if we take Muntari as part-ex for Masher, Brendan can add him to his "cunt" list.

Welcome Cuntari from SCM.

Barry McIntoshThe interest he is getting is from throughout Europe and a deal is not far away, I would say he is 80 per cent likely to be going to England Paraguay ace Victor Caceres is "80 per cent" certain to move to the Premier League, with Liverpool thought to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Caceres was one of Paraguay's star turns as they reached the World Cup quarter-final - losing out to eventual winners Spain - and the 25-year-old has attracted interest across Europe.

With Javier Mascherano eyeing the exit door at Anfield, Caceres could take over the Argentina captain's defensive role in the Liverpool midfield. It is believed that Roy Hodgson may have to sell players if he wishes to invest in his squad, with the potential departure of Mascherano expected to pave the way for a bid for Libertad star Caceres.

"It is fair to say that a number of clubs are looking at Victor, he had a fantastic World Cup," his agent Barry McIntosh told Sky Sports.

"We always believed Victor would impress in South Africa, and he did not disappoint.

"The interest he is getting is from throughout Europe and a deal is not far away, I would say he is 80 per cent likely to be going to England."

Its encouraging that we are at least being linked with quality players. Sell Mascherano, Lucas and Insua. With at least 25 million for Mascherano, we can bring in Taiwo, Defour and Banega. The funds from Lucas and Insua can fund Crouch and at least another player.

Sorted!

I see him more as a disarmed ED209.

I'm starting to like this Caceres lad. Some of the other forums seem to think he's a great player.

One of the unsung heroes of the Paraguayan qualifying campaign, the youngster is a defensive midfielder of great potential, teak-tough in the tackle, very energetic and tactically astute. He made his full debut in October 2007 in the opening round South American group, a goalless draw in Peru and has quickly developed into a dependable international performer.
Caceres was given his top-flight bow at the Libertad club by coach Gerardo Martino, who is now his national team boss and his 14 appearances in the World Cup qualifying push confirms his coach has plenty of faith in his abilities.

He learnt his football as a schoolboy at a club run by the national electricity company, so fans of a pun could suggest there is plenty of spark in his play and he will light up this World Cup.
