Interesting game to plan for. In Dec/ Jan, Rafa got criticised for parking the bus but in recent weeks they've looked a bit more fluid (largely through the addition of Kenedy in my view) and maybe that means they will play a bit more expansively.

However, they are there for the taking - i hope we hit them hard with full strength attack given Porto is now in such a good position.

---------------Karius---------------
TAA-----Lovren--VVD---Robbo
-----------------Can-----------------
----------Gini--------Ox-------------
Salah-------Firmino-------Mane--

I think Gini would have a point to prove against his old club, and i'd start Ox over Lallana but maybe this is a good game for Adam to get longer to find his form (although i'd prefer to see that in the CL).

Newcastle will be hard to breakdown and will try to nick a goal on one of the two attempts they get at our goal.

Milner was ace last week. Barring injuries I'd probs go with the same side that did West Ham, except, as you say Lovren for Matip.

I wish he'd pick a pair of CBs and stick with it.

Any chance the game might not go ahead because of the snow?

Milner's resurgence of form is encouraging. Against his old club too but then again he has played for a host of English clubs.

The problem is getting up that hill. The police say it's unsafe for people driving / walking up it if it's icy... but the forecast doesn't look that bad at all. I reckon it will go ahead.

Newcastle away is an odd one, not the furthest to get to but a decent distance cos you have to up & right or right & up instead of across (as you're looking at the map obv), & that climb is a cunt, but it's dead close to the actual city so you can walk after going round the pubs & the locals are usually friendly as well, if a tad difficult to understand, & I seemed to pull with some regularity whenever I stayed over.

We're at home mate !

Rafa has never lost to Liverpool. Hopefully it will be the first time for that as well this weekend.
Gayle might miss the game, which is good news as he always seem to score against us.

Think this will be a very tight game and Newcastle will be difficult to break down. Much like the away game last year.

Newcastle : 5 draws in the last 9 games, 2 wins and 2 defeats.

They've overcome the horrors of November/December when they were in relegation form. Recent away form includes losing 3-1 at City followed by two draws, 1-1 at Palace and 2-2 at Bournemouth (after being 2 goals up). They've won away from home 3 times this season; Swansea, West Ham and Stoke was the last (2 months ago on 1st Jan.).

They also had that 1-0 home win over United, 2 weeks ago, but I watched that game in full and they really should have lost by a hatful - United fucked up chance after chance 😀

Sorry Dreamy but I can't see anything, on the form we're in, bar a comfortable win, 3-0 or maybe 3-1.

I'm not having that. Yeah United had a few great chances (lol at that Sanchez "dummy") but most of the time they were fucking shit and didn't even put pressure on Newcastle in the closing minutes. Newcastle also should've had a penalty in the first half. It was a good, hard fought win for them. Anyway, we should batter Rafa's Championship level pile of crap even though that midget striker of theirs is obviously gonna score against us again.

About the starting lineup ... I'm fine with whatever we put out as long as we play the front three and Robertson (or anyone other than Moreno for that matter).

I'll be having a beer with a framed picture of Rafa next to me on the couch.

I have a feeling that Lascelles and Dubravka will play a game of their lives against us. Shelvey to get an assist for both teams, as usual.

He may not play (Shelvey) he has a late fitness check after missing training this week.

No doubt the former will definitely happen

But I'd still fancy us to win

If our attack is on song it can pull anyone apart

Team news

Both Georginio Wijnaldum and Danny Ings are recovering from illness, while Nathaniel Clyne is edging back to first-team football but is not available for selection.

For the visitors, striker Islam Slimani is sidelined with a thigh strain, full-back Jesus Gamez has an ankle injury while Liverpool's nemesis Dwight Gayle is likely to sit this one out due to a thigh strain.

Hope Gayle is out. Still haven't forgiven him for that goal he scored against us for Palace.

Newcastle are crap. Worse than West Ham. Just continue the way we finished on Saturday and all will be well.
