the reason I want bellemy is he is comfortable playing in a wide position and many of the names being mentioned aren't.
Why do we need another wide-playing striker when we've got Kuyt and Jova already?

The one asset Bellamy brings is pace, but you'll always have to go 442 to play him as a striker.

We need someone to bang in the goals when Torres is out, and I'm not convinced Bellamy is prolific enough.
I'd sooner bellemy in a wide position than kuyt but I get your point. if by some miracle torres is injury free for a sustained period is an out and out striker who is not likely to play in a 4-4-2 with torres going to be happy warming the bench? example, bent.

I'm with Squiggs on this one ... we need an out and out, fast, striker. Not another winger-come-striker a la Babel / Kuyt / Bellamy. Bent is a better option, but my money is still on us getting Remy. Hodgson made it known it's his current #1 priority with that statement re. striker yesterday.

I have a feling we will sell Mascherano, bring in Poulsen, buy Brad Jones. And that's it. Roy said he was only making two more signings.

There was something else I saw just recently that contradicted that, he mentioned a few not two. We'll just have to see, but YESTERDAY he was going on about a striker and squad depth, so that's on the cards for starters. LB - maybe he's happy with Aurelio & Kelly now. DM - if Masher goes we are definitely short in that area. Reserve keeper - we have links to someone at Reading yesterday after the Jones offer was turned down flat. I think we may see another 3 or 4 before the end of the transfer season.

Fuck it.. splash out and sign Luis Suárez
I've assumed all summer that Spurs would make him their top target but seemingly not.

How much would he cost?

Gyan would be a great signing as he can also play upfront on his own. He gets my vote

I would like to direct you to the chapter in our history with african players.

Could it be that our scouting was shite?
What if we bought Drogba instead of Cissé?
Essien instead of Diao?

BTW I don't see Momo as a failure.

So unless we're signing one that's 25m+, we should stay well clear?

What if we bought Drogba instead of Cissé? Cisses french
Essien instead of Diao? More what ifs and glad your not one of our current scouts!

Cissé and Drogba were bought during the same transfer window.
We laughed when Chelsea paid more for Drogba while we got the top scorer in the same league.
Gyan would be a hit in the premiership.

I remember this - we all made fun of Chelsea and were mostly convinced we got the better man! Jeesus!

Robinho will do....

He is really pushing for another season on loan at Santos - Man City would be daft to accept this as they are making quite a loss...

It would make sense for them to cash in at a loss and just suck it up...

Robinho is quality and i think playing in a more respected team with a far more proffesional attitude will do wonders for him...

Just because most of our africans have been shit, doesnt mean we should stay away from them. Although we would lose him for the african cup of nations so maybe ill choose Remy instead 🙂

He might be good, but he might be another Diouf.

We need to get players with consistency over a period of time, in all fairness.

Exactly, no one can say for sure how he would turn out as a premier league player. The last line is especially important. How many times have managers been caught out by a player who had a half decent international tournament only to find out a few months later that they paid over the odds for a inferior player than what was seen performing for their country!

Thats right Ken, we were after Essien when he went to Lyon. We got Diao instead.

Ouch.

from what I remember, gh wanted essien but the board wouldn't sanction the (then) unproven african after the disasters of diouf and diao. once bitten and all that...

Having justed watched Dutch-Moroccan Hamdaoui play for Ajax I reckon he could indeed be worth a punt. Both of his goal simply oozed quality as well as his overall play.

He's just moved however from AZ which could indicate that Suarez is on his way out of Ajax.

And I actually would mind him as he'd probably be far to expensive compared to his real qualities. I don't rate him as highly as others on here.

So let them keep Suarez and sell us Hamdaoui.

Liverpool have made enquires to sign West Ham's Carlton Cole, but have been put off by a valuation in excess of £10 million.

West Ham centre-forward Cole has rejected a move to Stoke City, but he would be open to the possibility of moving to Anfield this summer.

Soccernet understands Tony Pulis was prepared to blow his entire Stoke budget on signing the striker, who on Saturday was named in Fabio Capello's latest England squad, only to be rejected.

However, if a big club came in with a bid that equalled or topped Stoke's, then the Hammers could well sell their star striker. An insider told Soccernet: "Carlton would like a move to Liverpool, but they are short on funds as everyone knows."

West Ham have brought five new players to the club already this summer and are now in the process of reviewing potential sales.

Stoke's offer for Cole would have brought them close to the £12 million valuation West Ham have now placed on Cole, though at the start of the summer they thought he might even fetch £15 million.

Liverpool have intimated they will make a knock out bid for Cole, if they can get their act together in time with a takeover that releases funds for new players.

Liverpool might even go to the Hammers £15m valuation, in which case their offer would be accepted. Much depends on a takeover going through before the transfer window closes.

I'd rather sign Darren Bent if we've got £15m to spend.

Which we haven't, and probably won't have before the transfer window shuts.

Doesn't look like it, no.

Bent > Crouch > Cole

It would be nice if we could actually look at signing a *new* striker instead of old ones who haven't worked out here once before.

Roy is totally killing the positive buzz created by the Cole signing.

Their are quite a few players I'd sign before any of those two had we got those money to spend really.

Carlton Cole is a decent striker and id take him for 10mil or less.. but 15mil can buy you a much better player
