I see you still cant order a Voronin or Dossena shirt from the club shop.
There must be something in that?
You could just buy a shirt and get it put on afterwards at JJB Oncy.........

Change in shop policy. Anyone who bought one would probably be an opposition fan taking the piss.

No-one has yet posed the most pertinent point in this whole scenario........

......two players in our squad with ponytails!!!!

Why can't Platini get some kind of quota system in place for this abomination?
The french clearly don't have the moral authority to provide leadership to combat this evil.

Have you watched ligue 1?

Even on majestic footballers, it makes me want to cry, puke, shout and spit all at the same time, which ain't easy.........

i have a hunch this greek will be a cult hit.

i've never really seen vdv, what's his best posish? and best qualities?

i've seen a lot of sneidjer and i'd love us to sign him.

I mentioned him to my Celtic supporting mate who watched him while he was at Rangers, he started laughing and asked if he's going to be Degen's waterboy.

Just passing it on, I've never seen him play and have no idea how good or bad he is, all I know is that he's supposed to be good in the air.

Hopefully we wont need to see much of him. And then move him on for a small profit. The club better get ordering some extra crockery for the canteen at Melwood.

I used to be so super-sure that if we buy VDV, we'd walk away with the title. Easily. Mind you, this was a few seasons ago, until Stevie G played that role to devastating effect. Miles better than what I imagined VDV would be able to do.

So no, for the first time ever, I actually don't want VDV anymore. What we do need now, however - and this has to be the 1st priority - is an able, reliable backup striker. Someone a bit like Titi Camara, who doesn't mind being on the bench and yet is able to contribute with important goals when called upon.

I guess the thing with VDV is that despite the risk and the enigma tag, he COULD be devastatingly good if Benitez is able to get the best from him, and he's versatile too in the midfield/link roles. It still doesn't answer the question about who would replace Torres if he were injured though.

Even Voronin came on and replaced Stevie last night.

It would be good to have the option of bringing him in on Monday, but you'd imagine that depends on when he arrives and how long he has with the team and staff beforehand.

Hmm interesting. You actually gave me an idea.

How about....VDV as the backup link-man if Torres gets injured.

So basically....No Torres, we play Ngog or Kuyt (either one) with VDV in the hole and Stevie G roaming in a 'free-role'. Kinda like 2 'hole' players. Stevie can play a little deeper but still as an AM. Or we put him on the right, although I'm not sure if he'll like it or not. But it's only temporary when Torres is out so I'm sure he'll be ok.

-----------Ngog/Kuyt--------- Ngog

LW--------VDV---------SG OR LW------VDV-------Kuyt

--------Masch Lucas----- Masch SG

That way VDV can contribute the goals when Ngog or whoever fails to deliver. Kinda like the Chris Sutton role.

He can also provide backup when Stevie's out.

Nevertheless, I'll still only get him as a luxury player when there's spare cash to spend.

Yeah, I know, though it still didn't sound very encouraging. We'll see.

Bit more height in the team for 3M.... Bit surprised tbh, Ayala came through a physical test yesterday against Stoke.

Hardly a classic summer shopping spree but if we need cover then we need cover is that simple.

As for VDV, he is a top quality player albeit somewhat injury prone, and an attacking midfielder which is not such a bad idea.

I will be surprised if he comes to us however and not only from the financial standpoint of us being fucked, I heard/read somewhere that his wife is a TV personality in Germany and is currently suffering from cancer, surely a move back to Germany would be a more considerate move on his part.

Unless he doesnt like his wife very much of course.

No need to .. if you buy it yourself at the club shop then you can have it put on then and there. Their names are still up on the wall as squad members.

I don't think I would really want to give a debut to a slow, aging CB who has never played in England before against anyone very good either though.

he has experience though so it's better than a kid.

Pellegrino had experience and he was woeful

You've been hanging around with too many Australians
True. There's me, and one or two natural Australians in our football team. The rest are some cross-breed of Greeks, Maltese, Cro's, Maco's and Italians.

I'm a "sickcunt", and that's a compliment apparently.

I have to admit, I was pretty amazed at some of th stuff they come up with. I'm pretty sure I was listening to the radio and the presenter said something along the lines of "Ah yeah mate, that's really shit".

In the middle of the day.

Anyhoo, that's not what we call Greeks over here, you might remember it has a slightly different context? Not a very good one? You might want to consider a little edit?

Oh, fuck me, now *I* sound like an Australian, I'm turning everything into a bloody question

To be fair mate, the word has no negative connotations here as you know, and everyone should appreciate that I wasn't referring to the version of 'wog' that people in some parts of the UK use it for.

WOG%20BOY%20THE_FLR.jpg

Yeah, but to be fair most people wouldn't have a bloody clue that Aussies call Greeks and that wogs.

I certainly didn't until I went out there, and upon hearing it in use (quite soon after seeing 'COON' cheese in the supermarket) I was pretty shocked

yer wot?

Rafa Benitez is short of cover after he missed out on his main defensive target Matthew Upson. Benitez realised the extent of his cash restraints when the bank blocked a proposed £17million bid for West Ham centre-back Upson, though he did succeed with a near-£2m move for AEK Athens defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

from the fail.
