He's fucking slow as shit, turns as quick as a double decker bus and got torn apart in Scotland on a regular basis. He's fucking shit basically.

If I was Kelly or Ayala I'd be feeling pretty depressed right now.

Ayala and co have got a lot of time on their hands.

I would like them to get a chance this season, but don't think it spells the end.

Ayala's only 19...

And has shown he might be capable of the step up to the first team. Why stick some shit 30 year old in front of him ?

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I think good loan deals for them are in the best interest.

If we crash out of the League Cup early they're going to get sod all games anyway.

Maybe he bought him to sell at a profit. Our club has to make trading profit to survive, didn't we all know that already?

I always make £25M profit on Lucas on FM 2007...

Hmmm, didn't we sign him around then...

Ditto for Kelly.

its very difficult for young defenders to come through the anks at op clubs as defnce is a position where mistakes are costly. defeners at top clubs are either brought it or you have to wait for some time befoe you are considered good enough, certianly 19/20 is very very young to play a handful of games in defence

The Times today is reporting that Rafa will make a £10M bid for VDV
[/quote]

Doesn't he essentially play the same role as Aquilani?

I'd rather be competing for the 15M Euro rated Sneidjer...

VDV is a good player but there are a lot of doubts about him;

His wife's fighting Cancer, I think, so he is really focussed on football?; he's acted a cock before, and he's never proven himself in the biggest leagues.

However for £10M he's definitely worth a punt.

Signing an old defender with no experience of English football can sometimes be worse than throwing a youngster in. Pellegrino or Blanc for example.

Obviously with the transfer deadline looming and injuries already mounting up I can see what Benitez is doing but at the moment there is nothing to say this guy will be need less time to adjust than Ayala or Kelly

I'm relieved we've got more cover at the back, Ayala done really well yesterday, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on him too much as the season progresses especially against better opposition.

vdv is a good player and considerig how long we have been waiting for a signing i'd be delighted if we signed him.

Well i can't remember seeing the lad play but reading peoples opinions on him it doesn't sound like a great signing. Having said that alot of people are wrong alot of the time so who knows. Please be good you big ugly greek.

The BBC have quoted that in a bit of a misleading way. If you click onto The Times article, the "10M bid for VDV" is listed under the "Longshots" section and is then followed by saying Rafa has no money and won't be able to make a bid. So really, it's a load of 'ol bollocks to fill column inches.

We are lacking a defender who excels in the air. Hopefullyhe will add this if nothing else.

Whilst we have got the likes of Ayala and Kelly coming through, they are still only 20 or under, which is v young for a defender. Experience is vital, esp playing experienced pros as you will be in the Premier League. I'm sure they will get some more experience in the cups which will allow them to progress, however, I'm not getting too worked up by this signing.

You'd like to think that as 4th choice his contribution will be limited except for when we need him.

I don't think I would really want to give a debut to a slow, aging CB who has never played in England before against anyone very good either though.

We can't risk Ayala for the big games or the champiosn league games, so we've brought in an decent experienced player on the cheap incase Agger/Skrtel aren't fit. Surely it's not that hard to understand. Ayala did well against Stoke, but I'd rather have this Greek fella on a big european night thanks.

Theres little point comparing player x to player y and coming up with z.
He might be shit, he might be great. We DID need cover though.

Yes we did, my point was just that getting an older player in from abroad who has not played here can be as much of a risk as putting a youngster in.

Having said that I guess this would at least not completely dampen the hopes of a young player at the club. If we had lots of money and went out today and bought a defender for 8 million then they would probably be feeling a hell of a lot worse!

That's true.

I stil think it's a costly decision depending on the progress of Skrtel and Agger; but i'll be clear to thekids that this is clearly a stop-gap measure.

No-one has yet posed the most pertinent point in this whole scenario........

......two players in our squad with ponytails!!!!

Why can't Platini get some kind of quota system in place for this abomination?

I see you still cant order a Voronin or Dossena shirt from the club shop.
There must be something in that?
