Garuda Indonesia has signed a deal to become the ‘Global Official Airline’ of English Premier League side, Liverpool FC.

The deal, which will last for three seasons (2012–2015) will see a range of joint promotions and marketing activities, including carrying the Liverpool team on tours of Asia. Next year, Liverpool plans to visit several Asian countries on its summer tour, including Indonesia. Garuda will also place advertising around the pitch at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium during home games.

The agreement was signed in Liverpool by Garuda Indonesia’s President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar and Liverpool FC’s Managing Director, Ian Ayre, and witnessed by legendary Liverpool star, Ian Rush.

“Liverpool has fans all over the world and we are ready to work together with Garuda Indonesia and assist in their rapid growth. We are honoured to join forces with one of the best brands in the global aviation industry, especially a brand that comes from a country that has a strong and unique fan base that we are very proud of,” said Ayre.

“We are very pleased to join up with Liverpool Football Club. They are one of England’s best football clubs and is already a well-known global brand, with fans and supporters all over the world, including in Indonesia,” Satar added.

Garuda said the partnership formed part of its ‘Quantum Leap’ programme to transform the airline into a global company. While Garuda doesn’t currently offer flights to the UK, it intends to launch direct flights to several European destinations following the delivery of its Boeing 777-300 aircraft next year

With fucking who?

Could be been someone decent like. You know, who people have actually heard of.

I suppose at least it's not ryanair anyway.

It's fucking Garuda. It's in my company's blacklist of airlines for corporate flights. As I'm sure is the case for many other corporations. Crap airline.

Garuda is Indonesia's main airline. Indonesia has a population of more than 250 million.

Brand synergy.

We flew Garuda once. Never again.
A Garuda plane landed at Perth about 4 years ago despite clearance for landing being refused. The pilot was extradited to face charges. The in-flight fried rice is nice though.

Same as with Chevy, does anyone give a flying fuck as long as they're paying well. We could justify this as saying they're paying for Joe Coles wages, all of a sudden it's the best deal ever.

Yes & no.

If we get in the cl this year we could have got a major airline who would presumably pat much more.

I suppose we don't know until we have an idea of figures & sponsorship length.

Can't win really Ayre, can he? Let's face it, anyone in a CEO position at this club can't win, they'll always get it in the neck. Last week was a shambles but it was made abundantly clear yesterday that it wasn't down to Ayre, but down to the owners not budging on Dempsey's price and a lack of communication that they're willing to hold their hands up and be held accountable for.

I've taken the piss as much as anyone, I think he's a commercial director more than anything, but you know, we signed Allen, got Sahin on loan, spent £10m on a striker the manager wanted and got shut of 'some' of the deadwood (Rome and all that). I guess that would be the basics and the very fundamentals of the job, but anyway, no one says much when something goes right. Anything goes wrong and the CEO is in the firing line, cos he wears Paul Smith shirts and does the dad dance.

We've opened up alot of commercial opportunities of late, fair play.

It's only for flights within Asia though so surely they can sign for another airline when they fly to the states for example?

Correct, commercially he has been bloody good. We now have a decent amount of partners paying us cash... Once we stasrt performing on the pitch we will increase the brand and payment of those commercial sponsors...

At this point in time it is better than no airline partner, which was previously the case. And it is until 2015 which is the date Rodger's has been given to be challenging for CL football so I think it is being done knowing we are going to go through some turbulent times during this period.

Some people will never be pleased!

There's the nub, mate !

Does anyone have a picture of this famous Paul Smith shirt? I haven't seen it, sounds like a contentious issue!

I had to fly Garuda to Sampoerna recently (last minute thing), they were fucking dreadful. Possibly the worst airline I've ever been on, and I once flew with Aeroflot with Russians smoking beside me, so that tells you how bad Garuda are.

Didn't we pick them for the amount of money they were willing to pay as opposed to the quality of their flights?

Carlsberg made awful lager but we had them on our shirts for years!

So Ayre probably knew we were close to getting extra cash. Why couldn't we have used this for the Dempsey buy?
