Makes sense even if we intend to sell him. One giid season would make him a £40m player in today's market

I guess he was waiting for confirmation of who got the barbecue duties...

You and Brendan need a sub-forum where you can do nothing other than use tenuous links to respectively whine about Henderson and Firmino.

You can add dreambeliever who will provide you someone to argue with by continually offering the contrarian view.

Would be great if all the Firmino talk was non excistent this season. Going by the pre season thread, that wont be happening..

With the fees players are going for now the impact of losing players on a free becomes more significant. In this market it would be like gifting away £30m plus. I'll be happy when be signs.

I would be very happy to see Can sign a new contract. He's shown on a few occassions in the past that he has real ability and vision (a lovely clipped pass for an assist at the back end of the 15/16 season (I think) always sticks out). He had some really good games towards the end of this year too.

One thing that isn't in doubt is that he has the physicality required for a midfield position.

If he can find that bit more consistency (and we can find that bit more patience), we could have a really good player on our hands over the next 2-3 years.

I had hoped we sell him and get someone much more consistent and committed, oh well.
Confused by the committed remark. And it's not like he's wildly inconsistent. He just takes time to build form after injury then he's consistently good.

He was excellent end of the season.
I had all but had enough of him but he matured rapidly and became a huge influencer for us late on.

I very much hope he stays.

When we have our usual crash and burn matches after leading by two goals or something, has he ever rose above all else and steadied the ship?
I don't know, for me he sits on the Gerrard spot, yet he's no Gerrard, not even close.
This is central midfield we're talking, I just think you need a huge figure that everybody respects, at least one. Henderson sometimes is that.
He's just not top class in my eyes, he just goes with the flow and makes sure his Instagram feed is updated.
