Finaly, gloriously, are we witnessing that oligarch cunt Abramovich and his plastic shite club getting blown out like a cold snotter?

Players heavily linked with Chelsea this summer.

Johnson
Pato
Ribery
Villa
Kaka
Tevez

All this money to spend, and nobody's interested. I'd fucking love it if Tevez chose Citeh over them too.

Has their appeal waned? Are big-name players finally seeing through them?

I'd hope so, but they will buy players this summer.
Plenty of time yet.

I also believe that they are trying to reign in the big money spending.

I doubt they'll fail to get any big name signings, but it's clear the mercenaries will choose teh dreary north over the bustling south &if Citeh throw enough cash their way. Chelsea are being outbid by the upstarts.

Some uber-cunt with no sense of irony & even less intelligence called up Talkshite the other day whinging about how players would be mad choosing City over Chelsea just for a bit more cash cos Chelsea had more history & tradition.

Fucking. Hell.

Well if you have the mindspan of a Goldfish, they have!

If they loose Essien they'll struggle to hold on to the 4th place this comming Season.

I guess there's that much money in the game now, and players have come to realise that teams with money don't necessarily guarantee success, whereas when Chelsea were first taken over they were pretty much out there on their own (Madrid aside).

It's still an attraction for some players though and I guess that's where teams will find themselves with immensely talented players who are motivated by money. While we build gradually and promote our team ethic.

It'll (hopefully) make it all the more sweeter when we do win something big, under the noses of the riches of City, Chelsea and co.

Pato is coming to Chelsea ive heard.
45m bid accepted.
Dont know how real it is, but i wouldnt get to gloating just yet.

There's another Essien nutjob on here who probably would agree with you.

And while it's nice to see Chelsea get knocked back occasionally, it's worrying to see another plastic, now hateful club emerge out of nowhere. Hopefully Hughes will stay longer than I expect.

Yes, really.

With Citeh closing in on several top-targets compared with the incredibly lacklustre looking Chelsea on the transfermarket this Summer, they'd be set back years if they were to part with a player like Essien - probably their best player.

Ballack, Lampard, Mikel would be their mainmen in midfield whereas an aging Drogba/Anelka partnership upfront shall be relied upon to score their goals?

They'd seriously struggle to reach 4th spot then.

Hysterical bollocks.

Essien is key to Chelsea, we saw that last season, but they're squad would comfortably find a top-four space, because they're a very, very strong side.

So losing Essien, who they missed most of last season, would make them worse than Arsenal and Man City?

We're not even in July yet. Fuck all has happened yet other than a couple of defenders being signed and Utd losing their best player.

As someone said further up... "hysterical bollocks".

It makes perfect sense to me.

Ballack is 33-years-old, Lampard 31, Drogba 31, Anelka 30, Deco 32, Carvalho 31, Terry 29, Ferreira 30, Belletti 33.

Without Essien their spine would have an average age of around 31-years-old and it's not like upcoming stars are exactly lining up is it;

Malouda, Kalou, Alex, Ivanovic, Bosingwa, Ferreira, Mikel and A Cole (29) is all decent to good players but they are not setting the world alight by any means.

Without Essien and/or a an addition of at least one starplayer who's not 30+ they'd struggle to challenge with the best this comming Season.

There's nothing hysterical about it.

If you took Essien out of their current squad and they somehow fail to buy players who are stronger than what they've already got I can easily see both Arsenal and a new-look Citeh side finish above them.

Okay

We'll see their positions at the end of the upcoming season and if Chelsea finish ahead of City and Arsenal, you can write a long, detailed post about how it was all down to Essien.

We'll all look forward to it.

Take Essien out of the equation that is Chelsea's squad of today and they'd be severely decimated.

Maybe they'd get fourth anyways, maybe they'd even get third but I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see them go 5th or 6th.

the_khl, please answer the following:

1. If Chelsea are so weak without Essien, how is it that they managed to get 3rd place with 83 points in a season that he only managed to start 10 games?

2. The 5th placed side were 20 points off them and City finished 33 points behind. What will happen to Chelsea next season that they're dropping 20 or so points?

1. They were all 2-3 years younger back then if I'm not mistaken? You can't neglect the fact that several key-members of their squad is quite older than compared to their main competitors. E.g. the likes of Torres, Gerrard, Adebayor, Van Persie, Rooney, Berbatov, Robinho, Tevez, Santa Cruz et all are all several years younger than Anelka/Drogba. If they loosed one of those two then they'd be in a right awful mess. If they loose Ballack, 33, then they'd had to rely on Lampard, Mikel and Deco in central midfield without having Essien around? It's pretty much the same all over the pitch except in defense for the Chavs.

2. That was last Season Keni. I don't think you can ever rely on these kind of empiric stats to predict how the next Season will turn out? Players will move on, get older, get injured etc. Citeh will by all means come out stronger this coming Season and so will Arsenal. That, alongside Chelsea looking weaker/older, especially without their most influential player in Essien, will make them very much equally strong.

They were 2-3 years younger less than a year ago?

When the Season of 07/08 started they were 2 years younger than of today.

When the Season of 09/10 draws to a close they'll be 3 years older compared to the start of the 07/08 Season.

...And you're not even beeing pedantic.
