Momo’s Player of the Season thread

Over the past few weeks we finally got every first teamer in the points.

Mo has closed the gap on Gravenberch, as does van Dijk.

Those top 3 are beyond a doubt our most valuable players. In contrast I'm surprised to see Trent and Macca so far down and it also shows Robbo's drop off when I'm certain in previous seasons he'd have been in the top half a dozen.

I’ve tallied up the results from Fulham, Southampton and Spurs. Not many changes. Diaz showing how much of a good season he is having.

Macca doubles his tally and draws level with Robbo in 17th place.

Gakpo jumps Konate, Jones and Kelleher to make the top 5.

As it stands

1. Gravenberch
2. Salah
3. Van Dijk
4. Diaz
5. Gakpo

Salah closes the gap to Gravenberch to 1 point. Mac Allister moves up to 14th which shows how much he needed that rest. Rolls Royce of a player.

Following two disappointing performances, Mac Allister keeps moving up the table. Van Dijk also closes the gap to the top two.

It's very interesting to look at this (over halfway through the season) and then note some players are performing as expected, who is under-performing and who is an anomaly (or maybe isn't) !

Gravy we know has performed brilliantly most of the season so far. Mo. likewise has a ton of goals and assists and Virgil is just a Rolls Royce, so no surprise to see them at 1-3.

Others, when taking games played and injuries into account are performing superbly : Konate, Jota & Kelleher stand out.

More surprising is the relatively (or very) low ratings/performances of Szobo, Robbo & Trent. And in that vein note how well Bradley, Tsimi and have Elliott have done with very little game time.

So far yes, but I still have hopes for them. Big bad Dom especially may just be starting to rediscover the cutting edge he produced to begin with.

I hope so! His shooting and finishing js a little wham bam thank you mam. His passing and pressing much better.

A few updates from games that slipped through the net (Girona and Accrington Stanley as well as collating the Ipswich game.

Endo moves up and it’s tight between Trent and Bradley. Gakpo has opened up a little gap to Konate.

After the triple header of Bournemouth, Spurs and Plymouth, there’s not been much movement at the top. With Gravenberch just missing out of the points in the two meaningful games, Salah has closed the gap to a single point after his Cherries brace.

Gakpo leapfrogs Diaz into 4th place after his sensational Spurs outing. I think this is indicative of Diaz’s blistering start but poor mid-season form compared to Gakpo slowly getting better and better the more games we play.

Endo and Kelleher go level with Konate after the horror show against Plymouth. I think nobody would actually class those two higher than Konate for our overall view of the season so far. That may need some post season analysis but no way I’m getting in to that now.

On to another big triple header which could help define our season - Everton, Wolves and then Villa!

It's pretty wild Alisson is only 6 points ahead of Jaros and that Gomez is ahead of Nunez, with one being permanently out and the other always fit and available.

The table generally looks a fair reflection, although I do think there's a tendency to overlook the 8's sometimes. None of them have been standouts but they've probably deserved a few more 2nd and 3rd places throughout the year. We are largely widely regarded as having most complete midfield in the league, which they make up two thirds of.

I think this looks right, bar McAllister who's tireless work maybe goes unseen. He really should be in the top 5.

What the table is missing is that every MotM thread should also have a Bottom Three ! With -5, -3 and -1 points awarded.

I'm pretty sure Mo. would be about half down then with Trent, Nunez and Robbo on minus figures!

Alison has had long spells out, went 5 games without making a save and hasn’t kept many clean sheets since his return. So I’m not too surprised there.

Nunez is fucking gash. No surprises there.

Mac and Slobby haven’t really pulled in a run of games where you’ve gone whoa what a player. I wouldn’t call this a complete midfield either. It’s lacking steel. At times we have the resistance of Angel Delight.

I’ve not made any updates for about half a dozen games because I’ve been a lazy Viking.

Salah moves to top place, van Dijk closes up on Gravenberch and Konate catches a little on Gakpo who sees Diaz take back 4th place.

Here’s the table.

A decent spread (regular starters) all round bar, unsurprisingly, our FBs, who would have been at the top of this table a few seasons go.

Gravy got no love in the last few games. Interesting

His work rate to cover across the pitch is impressive still but his quality work on the ball has gone off the boil - due in part to us having very little of the ball in those games, also others have stepped up......even Trent.

We can only vote for 3 when sometimes 5 or 6 are worthy, a few unfortunate to miss out. That's all, he's still boss.
