I think they both played into each others hands.

Owen had clearly wanted to leave for the continent for a while, and Rafa lost no sleep over that.
 
yeah he went to portugal i remember. to speak to all the liverpool players though
 
I'm not saying that Rafa pushed him out, Owen clearly wanted to leave.

Like Wiz, I'm just saying that I doubt Rafa was too put out as he had his own ideas and targets.
 
I'd be amazed if Rafa thought he could do better than £9M than with Michael Owen.

But then this is Rafa we're talking about..
