He was quiet tonight, popped up with another 2 though. Can't moan when you have a quiet night and get 2 goals.

I tend to agree. The thing is, I don't think Maradona would have scored 86 goals in a season in the current Barca team. Not even close. But neither do I think that Messi would have almost single-handedly dragged Napoli to two Serie A titles and Argentina to a World Cup win. It really is about what you consider to be the greatest achievement.

Personally, I think there will always be a slight sticking point unless Messi goes on to achieve something at international level. I know it's only a fraction of their professional careers, but when you're talking in terms of the best ever, I think it helps if you can demonstrate that your are great whatever the stage, and whatever the pressure. I don't think Messi has done that as yet.
 
So we can lay to rest Zico's claim for record then?

Now for the African record! 1 million goals in a year?
 
Becomming the greatest player the game have ever seen I reckon. Especially if Argentina wins the World Cup with Messi playing at his peak.
