i've never seen best play bar the highlght reels so i'm not in a position to judge. What made him better than the other greats in your eyes St G?
 
Only highlights of course as I'm too young, but he had everything.

His balance and strength on the ball was incredible. He just didn't go down.

From what i've seen it's between Pele and diego for me personally. Best was amazing, but i can only o by what i've seen

Again I dont think I have the knowledge to do a squad comparison, but I thought the popular belief is that Maradona inspired an average Argentina squad to a world cup victory. Maybe that is wrong.

However I think that in order to be considered in the Pele, Maradona level, Messi has to inspire Argentina to a final in the world cup if not win it or make the difference against big teams in glamor games. Last world cup, Diego Forlan and Luiz Suarez and couple of German kids were more impressive than Messi. I am talking about world cup performance alone.

I don't think that this Argentinian squad is that weak that we cannot expect it to beat any of the big teams. He needs to become the star of the next world cup or win the best world cup player award to be considered in the Pele, Maradona category.
 
Whenever I've heard/read about Maradonna's International exploits it's also been portrayed that he was a mentally bright star amongst an otherwise dull/average sky.

The easiest way to determine just how good they were is to unlock Fifa 11's classic XI and see how many of that squad make the Fifa squad.

Fifa stats NEVER lie.
