A freebie and a 3.5 year contract... it really is a superb signing

So the boss can wheel and deal...

Good. Maxi's signing should mean Insua gets a deserved break.
Why? What? How?

I wonder if Maxi could be the man to show Babel how to be a goal threat winger with a fantastic shot. But my dream move would be Babel plus money in the summer for Mata.

Oh and I am extremely excited about this signing. Unless Maxi is our new Left Winger! He can play there but should be our Right Winger

Let's face it, we are more likely to build a 437987510463589074612 seater stadium ready for the start of next season than either of those happening.

Welcome to Liverpool Maxi.

He put in a transfer request at half time apparently.

"Me? Maxi Roriguez? Non"

Eh? Maxi isn't a left-back.

That said, neither is Insua

I was making reference to Rafa's penchant to playing people out of position. I thought the comment might get chided for being droll, not for being over anyone's heads...

Didn't you know DSE ? Apparently playing someone out of position is known as Total Football

That's not the point.

The point is whether Rafa is particularly shite at buying South Americans which he clearly is not. At least not compared to the abysmal 'form' of Slur Alex in this department.

Well it is the point actually

As I have said before, whatever poor signings United have made in the past it clearly didn't do them a hell of a lot of damage did it?

Benitez's poor signings have done, and many of them are still here and still playing

If you are going to try to draw comparisons with United and Ferguson to try to show Benitez in a good light you will pretty much always be onto a loser.

Better really to consider his own record as it stands, which is 9 South American players, 8 of them shit.

I don't think it's as simple as that to be honest.

Leto and Paletta were harmless punts who we got our money back on and probably played for the reserves more than first team. No different to random signings Ferguson made like that Angolan striker or Rodrigo Possebon or whatever his name was.

Insua was bought for the reserves and we've done well enough with him that we'll make a profit. He has been a good buy. The problem is that this season he's asked to play as a first team starter, which is clearly a step too far. Even Wenger doesn't play his youngsters who have come out of the reserves every single week.

Aurelio has been a decent Bosman.

Maschareno has been top class.

Gonzalez was again a cheap 1.5M punt but very disappointing given the hype, so that one definitely goes into the shit heap pile. And Pellegrino can join him.

Why are we having this argument again if you've already decided that everything Ferguson does is good because he's winning titles?

You're arguing that Rafa is bad at this and that and when someone then point out that oh mighty Ferguson, whom everyone rates obviously, actually has done worse in that particular area, then you are saying that doesn't matter because Ferguson has won more?

That's brilliant.

I'm not arguing that everything Ferguson does is good. He has made some terrible mistakes in the transfer market. However, it doesn't seem to stop him winning titles year after year after year does it? Managers reputations live or die by what they have won, that's the way it is. So criticising the most successful manager in England over the last 20 years on his transfer record will never get you very far will it?

If Benitez made loads of terrible signings every year but still won the league I'm sure I could come to accept the terrible signings. Except he doesn't does he? He tends to win nothing at all.

We talked about Rafa's record in South American transfers and I merely added that he's done better than one of the best managers around. Ferguson's simply spend far more and are yet to buy anyone near Mashers class from that part of the world.

I'm not questioning who's the most succesful manager however. No-one in their right mind would.

it';s ironic Richey talks about Ferguson, if Richey was a united fan in 89 he would have wanted him shot
But it's not 89 Rebel, it's a shit load of league titles later.
