Lads, i'm living in Ireland and planning on heading over for a match in the new year, either the Bolton match in Jan or the Sunderland match in March. Just wondering has anyone any advice on how best to get a ticket.

I dont have a fan card or any of that malarchy and these package deals seem very expensive. If i applied for a fan card now would i be able to use it straight away?

Any help at all would be appreciated. Cheers.

You'd be able to use a fancard straight away. Otherwise it's a case of waiting to see what comes up

Pretty much straight away - active within 3 days I think; therefore if he wants to go in January I'd say get your application in now. Think next year it changes to seasonal membership....

Is it still possible to get a fancard or has that been replaced by the new membership scheme? Cant find and mention of it on site. Cheers for the help lads.

Fancard replaced with this new club membership thing, which in turn is replaced/ amended in May.

Whenever we've gone home and it's coincided with a home game, we've actually been able to get tickets through the club... Just watch for the on-sales dates for your match (via the official website) and be on the phone as the office opens - It's always worked for me.

Good luck.

Yeah sounds like a good idea but thing is i want to book hotels and flights now so didnt want to be waiting until two weeks before the match before getting tickets but will try as a last resort.

Anyone know the name of any reputable tour operators that run trips from Ireland?

I reckon you will end up paying way over the odds if you go through a tour operator Barry.

For example, I recently seen advertised a package for the upcoming Wigan match for match tickets and accommodation (no flights/ferries etc) for €249 per person.

I am going over for the same match and it is costing me £142 for both myself and my lad all in, although granted the flights are only costing us four cent.

Even if you have to get tickets off a tout I reckon you will still end up paying a lot less overall than if you went with a tour operator.

I am planning to travel over for the Bolton match myself and have already booked flights out on the Friday night. I am keeping an eye on the return flights hoping they will drop back a bit. I will let you know if they do.

You could just turn up at Anfield with a big Jester hat on, shouting

'Oi need some tickets lads, to be sure'

...Sorry, wrong log-in

If you book your flights and your hotel well enough in advance, and just assume that you'll get tickets (which you will), you'll save a fortune by doing it yourself.

Thats the plan whaddapie, cheers for that.

Thanks count would appreciate. Its actually cheaper to fly in and out of manchester wit aer lingus and get train, just in case you hadn't thought of checking.

Ryanair prices go up and down with seemingly no pattern.

While I bought my tickets for four cent at 5pm they would have cost €180 three hours later. Tthey were quarter that price the day before. I still haven't figured out how it works.
As soon as anything decent crops up I will let you know.

Right, i got my flights booked for the Bolton match. Dublinn to Manchester return for 60euros each, not bad at all. Now just needt o sort out tickets and hotel. Cheers for the help.

Grand Barry.
I hadn't forgoten about you and I still haven't bought return tickets for myself yet.
I too will probably end up coming back via Manchester but I still haven't given up on Ryanair dropping their prices from Liverpool on the Sunday. The waiting game continues.

You never know, we might bump into each other in the Harry at some stage. After all, how many drunken Irish could there possibly be on a post match night in Liverpool. 😉
