Match thread Liverpool v Swansea

I thought Robertson was very, very good today. Our 2nd best player after Phil on the day. The substitution from Klopp was a badge of honor of sorts, protecting him for future games.

Ox post-match:
I was a bit disappointed with myself. Happy I got the goal in the end. I managed to work hard through the 90 minutes, and the goal made it a bit better. We knew we had to step up second half, and I think we did that. I just want more out of myself, and there were a few moments when I thought I could have done better. We train every day and when you get into certain situations, you work hard to get into those situations, you want to do better. There was a few times today I could have done better, for sure. But 5-0 for the boys, I’m really happy with that. I just want to keep pushing myself to do better, which is why I’m not so happy. There was good quality all round, it’s a positive result and we can build from it.

Next five EPL games are a massive opportunity for us

Yeah - I'm completely cool with Ox. What a sound lad he seems and he tried hard today. Scored and was refreshingly honest in his interview. Nice one. Now score some more goals you cunt! 😉 x

This 5-goal performance moves us into clear 2nd place at the goalscoring stakes. City 60 (with game in hand), LFC 46, United 43, Spurs 39, Chelsea and Arsenal 34 each.

Hopefully Brendan got a Liverpool shirt for Christmas with nr 9 and Firmino on the back

Only Paris St-Germain (89) and Manchester City (77) have scored more goals in the big five European leagues this season (all competitions) than Liverpool (75)

Good result can't be upset by it. However, as per usual we really laboured in the first half to get our timing right. Don't think we have come across a team this season that park the bus in a more artistic way than most other ones we faced. I mean they passed the ball around quite a bit at the back and our players looked as though 'what the fuck is this shit ?'.

We came good in the second half - and agree with most on those that were good tonight, but want to make a special mention for Klavan who really put in an assured performance yet again - I know most of you won't want to hear that but here you go.

Regarding all the praise for Bobby - well I am afraid the first half showed why Brendan's view of him still stands true. Yes he scored two goals but I have a strong feeling that without the support of all the others around him - if he was our only striker - we would be truly fucked. Yes he does great work for the team up front - making space, and has good bits of trickery but as a purely impact player who leads the front line - like a Torres, or Suarez, Fowler, Owen and all our past good/greats - I don't think he cuts it. At the moment he is right for our system.

Sorry forgot to add - I don't know about most of you - I cheered when the first goal went in then I feel sad knowing the cunt will be off soon or next season. I don't really celebrate that much when he scores these days. Find it difficult - like really difficult.

Cover your eyes Brendan FFS !

Last season when a couple of posters questioned our goalscoring reliability, Firmino and others weren't scoring regularly enough.

I don't see you harking back to when we were ridiculed, for suggesting we needed more attackers. Even though we went out and bought three and now score for fun. "We don't need a big goalscorer". Just Mo Salah, eh.

Exactly so. Salah has propped us up no end

Went the match today (props to @Woland for sorting me and the bro out). Second half was top class.

Thoughts:
Coutinho is just pure visceral sexy football
Gini was insanely good second half
I celebrated Trent's finish like he was me own family. Boss having a goalscoring scouser again. He has a future in midfield somewhere
Oxlade improves with every game
Atmos first half was so dead I clapped once and I swear to god I heard it echo in the fucking stadium. Kind of cool
I love watching Salah and Coutinho together its a real joy

I think we played well within ourselves in the first half, having the luxury of the early goal. It was dull, but we were unthreatened, and had 3-4 occasions when we came close to the second goal. It wasn't great viewing, but was effective enough.

I really hope we catch Man U. They really are toilet this year and fuck knows how they're ahead of us

I love the way you are dead reserved on here and call them “toilet” but on Twitter you will say and post anything

This time last season we had two more points and had scored one less goal.

Too many draws, if we turn those into wins next season we will be right in the mix.

Been a while since any team went back to back and I'm not sure City's stars will have the drive to do it.

I expect Chelsea to continue their every 2nd season run at the title next season though so that'll be a concern

I'm just saying the so called fab four or Salah impact isn't quite what it seems. We're getting very similar attacking results.

We have had to mix it up with our Euro games though, where we scored a ton, so it’s been very good in front of goal for us.
If only we could defend better..

Where's Harry Kane?

Sergio hasn't played every game, Lukaku is having a shit season after a great start, Morata has been injured and Jesus also hasn't played all their games
We’re looking at the top 4 I think.
And credit to Firmino for having a better record so far than any of the no.9’s in the teams above us. Including the runaway champions.

Aren't you just a bundle of fun.

Brendan and Rosco and a couple of others, regularly have pops at posters simply because once upon a time they had an opposing view. And they don't need any incentive (such as a post) to instigate those attacks. As you well know. So that was a tongue-in-cheek riposte, it should have raised a little smile amongst some.

Though to take your post seriously :

Brendan has a disparaging nickname for Firmino, even when he was scoring or playing well he'd use it. He's dumbed down now though hasn't he. Brendan has never had any love for Firmino, though plenty of abuse, whereas pretty much everyone now agrees just how valuable, and utterly skilful, a team player he is and one could almost even say 'essential'.

As for the rest of your comment - nobody was objecting to bringing in more attackers (well I certainly wasn't) or a better striker than Sturridge Pt2. I was always a strong proponent of signing Aubameyang or Lacazette. What some of us also stated however was that an out and out striker per se wasn't necessary if the goals were being scored across the front line (a theory which Brendan still objects to). I don't see anybody saying we need more goals now ... with, surprisingly, the goals being spread across the front line and no reliance on any one player.

As to suggesting my post was ... in retrospect. Are you fucking kidding me ? The likes of Brendan and Rosco are all over that shit - they are bloody historians ! Don't see you pulling them up.
