I was gonna do a thread on this, so glad DB got there anyway.
Yup, he was very good BUT... If I was Hughed I'd hang that little fuckwit Wright-Phillips out to dry. He was fucking awful, and pretty much the reason they lost that game. Everyone has shite games, everyone can get beaten by their oppoent, but he offered fuck all support, was cuaght out of position hundreds of times, and hung Richards out to dry. Every goal United got came from him either sleeping, or not bothering to track back.
Giggs waltzed around him all day long, and didn't even have to try to do it. I've seen fuck all Football news since Sunday, so I'm not sure if he was carrying an injury, if others have pointed this out, or if it's been noticed - but he was dreadful. His contribution for Rooney's first was laughable. And it got worse from then on in.
Richards never got further than 30 yards from Given's goal the entire second half, cos he'd no support from the little different strokes cunt. It's alright saying 'oh but City played too deep' but defence's automatically do that when midfielders are converging on them. You can't push up when you've got two players to contend with, as Richards nearly always did.
Anyway, a word on United. I thought Fletcher was the outstanding player on the pitch. He's now approaching the top echelons of midfielders playing in the Premier League. If you think that's shit, then you need to start watching him. He's excellent, and drove that team on relentlessly throughout the second period. He was everywhere, and made Hughes' decision to shift to a 4-4-2 embarassing. In Fletcher, Evra, Rooney, Vidic, and Giigs they've got proper quality. the problem as I see it is that maybe they don't have enough similar talent across the board. For once, the overall level of quality in the squad might be dipping a touch. Ferdinand's not gonna get any better, ditto Scholes, O'Shea's not a long-term solution, and personally I think Foster's shite. If they played Chelsea tomorrow, they'd lose.
Ferguson does though have money, and will spend. He'll spend the bulk of it next summer though, cos he'll not have the same talentpool to choose from in January. If we're ever gonna have a chance of overcoming those cunts, it's this season for me.
