I think he's the more expendable out the two and the one showing the least amount of loyalty, given we put him back on the map pretty much.

This totally deserved a new thread.

I might start a new thread which details my thoughts on how I'll feel seeing Torres in a Liverpool shirt next season (happy).

i think it's time to be pissed off with him, as opposed to wondering whether he'll stay. that's why i did a new thread.

Overrated rich mans sissoko. 35 million and he's all yours barca. Afterall we have Lucas. :'(yy

I think Rafa's comments today spoke a thousands with regards to these two, both clearly want out, that's why Rafa played the guilt trip re their circumstances when we signed them.

[/quote]Hows he showing less loyalty? His agent made Barca friendly quotes and hes more than once said he's happy here. Xabi has said nowt. I know who i respect more this summer.
I want them both to stay that said.

Don't know about both wanting to go, but we can't for the love of God sell them both. That would ruin our season even before it starts.

Neither player has been quoted in saying they want to leave, so until one of them do, I expect both to stay. Barca and Real won't meet our valuation, that I'm pretty sure of.

Isn't it relatively common knowledge that Mascher's (pregnant?) missus is pushing for a move..? Isn't she already gone back to S. America? And other than that, Mascher would stick around, 'cos he LOVES it at Liverpool?

Why the vitriloe aimed at him?

xabi has been here for 5 years, and won the champions league with us. even if you ignore the fact that he was last summers outcast, you could understand him wanting a new challenge.

mascherano has been here for 2 seasons and has clearly had his head turned. he has said nothing about staying, as far as i know.

I agree Masher owes us more, from West Ham reserves to captain of Argentina would not have been possible without Benitez believing in him and risking his job paying all that money for a DM and all that shit with his agent getting him on loan and converting it into a permanent deal. so if now wants to go to Barce, that's a joke. infact, i would probably sell him to Madrid next year or even Valencia just to make a point.

Can we save the fucking melodramatics for when he actually hands in a transfer request, for fucks sake!

While I'm sure both players would be open to a move if a deal materialised, I think this is more about money than any real desire to leave, hence Rafa highlighting their contracts today. I'm inclined to think their agents are forcing the issue on improved terms and both would be content to stay, which is why they're not kicking up more of a stink and handing in transfer requests.

Maybe. If he does I think it's for more money. He spoke about the backing he got from the fans last summer, well now it''s time he repaid that loyalty.

I don't think it's as simple as that. Him being jacked off with Rafa, rightly or wrongly, isn't helping.

Rafa Benitez believes that key midfielder Javier Mascherano has quit sulking and is now back to his imperious best.

That showed in his early season form as the former West Ham player seemed to struggle with demons.

But his Anfield boss is confident that Mascherano now realises he is a vital player at Liverpool, and will respond by showing a perfect example of leadership to some of the club's younger players.

"There has been a significant improvement in his game over the past 10 days. He has been a lot more focused, and we are seeing the real Javier Mascherano again," he said.

"He is now fully focused on us and what we might achieve together this season. I can guarantee that 100 per cent. We have spoken about his situation before, and we spoke again.

"He has accepted that his future is here and that he is going to be a key player for us once more."

Mascherano was unsettled as speculation raged over his future at the club, along with that of Xabi Alonso, who eventually moved to Real Madrid.

It was feared the Argentina midfield anchor would be upset that his partner at Liverpool got the move and not him, but Benitez believes the summer has shown Mascherano just how important a player he is to the English club.

In the end, the Anfield boss was faced with a straight decision of which of his two holding midfielders to let go, given that he felt they were too similiar, and he chose to release Alonso, showing how highly he rates the South American.

And the Reds manager said: "Before, it was difficult for him, because everyone was talking about what might happen, and he could see that Alonso was on his way.

"But all that is behind him now. It is all in the past. He realises his importance to us and that he has an example to set, and he has changed a lot.

"I have seen a big difference in him. He knows he is staying and is clear about that in his own mind, and he is ready to show a lead to the rest of the players."
