This.
Although given all the shite that was flying around at that time and his assertion it was not like that, I will give him the benefit of the doubt over that, but not his empty excuses for moving on.
I loved him
I miss him
I would take him back in a blink

This /\

Loved him whilst he was here, would take him back in a heartbeat, I would forgive him for everything after the first crunching tackle he makes.

I'd begrudgingly accept him if he came back but I could never cheer him - in fact, I might just take some joy in watching him get clattered on a few occasions.

I want players who love the club and want to, nay, are desperate to play for us.

Yup well said wiz. loyalty is important and I can't forgive a player who's career was resurrected by our club and then the player repays this by jumping ship before a key match - during a horrendous period for the club. And if you can find it to forgive him still, consider his comments after he left and again when Torres left. Just Another plonker

All things being equal I'd lobe him back, but they aren't.

HOw long would it be before his 'wife got stressed and wanted to learn Mongolian'?

We can say what we want about him on this forum, but it doesn't take away the fact that he's one of the best players in world in his position and he's been quite good for Barca for the past few months.

We should move beyond the bitterness now, he doesn't play for us anymore so forget him.
spot on

He is one of the best in the world at tackling people in midfield where possible whilst passing 5 yrds sideways or back and contributing nothing going forward in assists or goals and at the same time getting booked and possibly sent off in important games.

Not many better than Masher

DM is a made up position in the modern game for defensive players who were not good enough (tall enough) for defence and not good enough to attack, ask Souness he will tell you

If I might say Fox that is a mixture of myth and bollocks perpetuated by people that did not want to see his attributes, it's not like any other Liverpool legends ever get sent off in big games is it :🙂

Some of you seem to overrate Masher...... He's no Souness.....

He can run and tackle but sorry passing and shooting let him down..... He isnt as good as some make out.

The last time I remember hearing stuff like that was when some were saying "all Alonso does is pass".

I think you have things arse about face to be honest, no one is saying he is a Souness, what some are saying is that he is a very good player in the role that he has, and I for one never saw him give less than 100% on the pitch, that seems good enough ofr a large number of people when it comes to Dirk, but never was when it came to Mascher.................He isn't as bad as some make out.

Masherano is a great player, but I doubt we're going to see Kuyt complain about his wife wanting to go home anytime soon and him learning Italian.

I'd love him back, but he's proven he can't be trusted.

I'm amazed that some posters are either unwilling or unable to notice that Mascher was a great player whilst he was with us.

And teams from 20 or 30 years ago would've struggled now.

The game has moved on. The demands of the game have changed.

"made up position".

What a fucking imbecilic thing to say.

I think he was a very good player and he'd improve our current team, no doubt. I just don't think a midfielder is a 'great' player unless the offensive side to his game and his passing are a bit better.

I think Masher's passing is being underrated. He was no Xabi but he wasn't this wasteful sideways passing midfielder people are making him out to be. He was a fairly competent and quick mover of the ball albeit with a limited range of passing. The fundamental problem of his partnership with Lucas last season was that Lucas offered fuck all in terms of creativity.

"Angels dancing on the head of a pin"-type stuff there, gene. In terms of all-round footballing ability there have been numerous better midfield players than Mascher. In terms of the ability to defend in front of the back four (and, in the process, release others around him to bomb forward) there haven't. If Rafa had left him on the pitch in Athens we'd have won our 6th CL.

there's a reason why he consistently was top or thereabouts rated player on our forum and others - he was simply immense for us, and I would have him back in a second - anger(rightfully so) has clouded people's memories.

What was that about there being no need in modern football for the sliding tackle? He made it look like an artform. He was like a heatseeking missile when he locked onto an opponent with the ball. Miss all that.

agree, but what does it for me is the passion and dedication at 1.27 of the clip - that type of play really gees me up - i love it.

Indeed, he was so very spunky that it's hard to credit there isn't a bit of British in him somewhere.

Remember his performance against Arsenal a couple of seasons back. Incredible.
I do. I also remember him watching stop and let Tevez stroll past him 30 yards from goal to put United 1-0 at the Kop end.

He was one the whole a great player for us, to be fair.

I still don't get why we're wistfully talking about a player who didn't want to be here, conjured up a pile of bullshit excuses to explain why he wanted to leave, and who isn't coming back.

Lots of players make mistakes, Mascherano constantly made great performances, I still feel we havent replaced him properly.
