From Di Marzio. Fabrizio Romano tweeting that talks have started as well.
Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool FC are looking for a young goalkeeper for the next season to supporting Simon Mignolet. Reds are interested, as we reported, in Atalanta's Marco Sportiello, born in 1992, who's considered in Italy Gianluigi Buffon's successor. In this season, Sportiello has played 25 games with nerazzurri's and he showed himself to be very able, constant and mature. He's a product of club's Accademy and, after various experiences on loan with Seregno, Poggibonsi and Carpi, he's become the first Atalanta's goalkeeper. Contacts are started, nerazzurri and Liverpool are in talks for Marco Sportiello, the goalkeeper of italian football's future.

A very solid keeper who I expected would be snapped up by one of the bigger Italian sides at the end of this season.

Depending on the price it could be good piece of business by the club.

Atalanta will want a high price but I suspect we can get him on the low end of the scale with the fee rising according to performance/appearances - I expect the club to try and do a deal based on that approach given the history of flops we have signed from Serie A. If they insist on a big fee then we should forget about it.

So is this guy good enough to take over from Mignolet or is he an understudy who has more promise than Brad Jones if needed to fill in?

Wherever he ends up, he would be signed as a starter. Not a backup.

I thought Juve would be keen on him but looks like they're set to get our former target Nieto on a free at the end of the season from Fiorentina.

AC is just not ideal for Sportiello as they are complete shambles. They are signing has-beens & show ponies like Taraabt (seriously, wtf) & really have no direction at all at the moment.

Inter is a good option for him as they are under new Indonesia ownership which favours youth & young emerging stars as their key transfer targets (as opposed to mega signings). But the GK department is not one they really need to fill as Handanovic has been solid for them.

If our interest is real, then I would guess its between us & Inter.

Also, let it be said that Sportiello would be our preferred choice based on his looks alone, the sexy bastard.

There is just something about Perin that I dont like, not sure what it is but I'm not convinced.

Ryan or Sportiello will do nicely.

This guy may well be the next buffon for Juve, however with our record we should not be signing any more Italians!

Yeah let's compare him to one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time after one YouTube video.
Makes sense.

Ta. Who is better, him or Perin?

Hard to say because they both have different strengths & weaknesses.

Perin - easily the better shot stopper, but his distribution is actually quite poor.

Sportiello - very good distribution, but not as good as Perin in shot stopping.

Alarm bells, buzzers, flashing lights, beepers, fog horns, screaming children, the bat signal.... Should all be going off at the thought of us looking to sign another fucking Italian!!

Ryan looked better suited to our style. Our style will piss some posters off. But Rodgers would love if the Mings didn't have to hoof it so much to be a good keeper.

Yeah Ryan looks like he would suit us very well.

Sportiello will probably end up at Juve.
